Hi after just speaking to Randy via the live chat, i asked him if it was possible to have the Product Number show in the search reasults i was assured that this was possible but i can't figure out how on earth you set this up

Can anyone help, its quite important that we can have this show because with DVDs there maybe a couple of versions of the same film available but from different manufactures, we want to use the Product number to either add the unique catolog number of the film or to add the Film Producer to it.

I know you can have the manufacture appear in the search reasults but i didnt like the way it spilts the search up so any help is greatfully excepted.

Hi Sarah -

There currently is not a setting that you could switch that would include the part # in the search results listing. The best suggestion I have would be to include the part number within the short description of your products. As long as you have your product lists set to display in a single column (as you currently do) the short description will be included with the other information that is displayed (product name, price, etc.).

Hope this helps!

Hi Brad

Ok thanks for the reply and the solution only problem with that is i use the short description for release date etc, I will ask 1 think though why is it on 2 occassions now, monstersmile.gif Sales people claim that the monstersmile.gif software can do somthing that it can't is very annoying!

Perhaps the staff could do with an update on what the software can and can't do, because of my checkout issue - it has put a huge strain on my customers ordering from the site so much so, we currently arnt advertising the site as it would look like we are not UK Based.

Sorry for the moan but you guys have annoyed me again!

Sarah,

I have tracked down the reason that this happened. The sales person you spoke to is Kevin. He has left for the day, but I think I have reconstructed what happened.

Earlier today, while Kevin was manning the Live chat feature, he ran down the hall to ask me a quick question. We have a few new sales people and I have always made myself as available as possible to answer their questions. Most of them are pretty technically knowledgeable and have picked it up pretty quick including Kevin.

Kevin asked me, "Jim, can the search results use the product's part number?"
I said, "Of course it can! What would be the point of a search that didn't allow you to search by part number."

But do you see what happened? What I assumed he was talking about, was "Can the search feature search by part number? Can the customer simply enter a part number into the search box and get a result list?" Your actual question, if I understand it now, is "Can the search results display with part numbers along with the thumbnails and product names?" Brad is correct in that our software does not yet do this. Either he misunderstood your original question, or more likely I misunderstood Kevin when he asked your question. Since it is my fault that this happened, you have my humblest apologies.

Just so everyone knows, our sales people don't mislead and do not overpromise. However, when we are talking about software features wires can get crossed and when discussing the program, what people are trying to describe they want to do gets interpreted on this end and even though both people on either side of the conversation THINK they are both talking about the same thing, in a few cases our thought balloons don't match. It's just human nature. I'll be sure that I listen a little bit more attentively to you and every other client (as well as the sales team) and be sure that I reiterate what I think someone is talking about in my own words before I answer.

Once again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

EDIT: I just reread the post and I see where you said you chatted with Randy. Still, I think that I have answered in the same way before about this to a question from Randy. Anyway, the same apology should apply embarassed.gif

Interesting you should post that, James.

When I first read her post, that was my initial reaction. (Of course you can search by part number. We do it all the time.)

I, too, didn't notice that she needed the part number to display in the search results. embarassed.gif

Hi Jim

Thanks for the post and honesty, I was having a very bad day when i posted my message so i probably over reacted in my posting. I understand wires can get crossed and that i probably could have explained the question abit better.

I am thinking of a solution as we speak, i might add somthing to the product images so that it is clear as to what company direct the dvds etc.

Perhaps this could be added as a feature request?

Or perhaps to have the option as to what is displayed in the search reasults page?

Hi Bookmark

While i respect your posting im alittle confused as to how you can not get

" i asked him if it was possible to have the Product Number show in the search reasults".

Which was in my original post that clearly says to me exactly what i asked,

Thanks for you post anyway

I thought the same as Bookmark ... we all think on different wave lengths (at least I hope we do). Since bookmark and I both search a lot by part number, that was the 1st thing we both thought of.

I don't know how long you've been in business, but if you think we're bad at misunderstanding wait until get a load of some customers misreadings. blinking.gif

hope you're having a better day now.

Hi Everyone -

I will make sure to run this thread by one of our QA team members so that the items discussed can be added as feature requests. Thanks everyone!
