Full Version: Fresh Ideas On How To Make The Forum More Useful?
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterSmallBusiness > Forum Feedback
Captain
The forum has exceeded our expectations as a communication medium with our clients and it has also proven very useful for client to client feedback and discussion.

Thank you to all clients that contribute to the forum.

On this note, can anyone think of what can be added to the forum regarding topics or tools that would make it more useful?

Let me know and I'll get it done.

Well first do not make any more categories, the categories are fine, adding more would cause for duplicate information being posted. It would be nice if you guys could add a calender of events, and open up the option for us to upload pictures onto the forum directly.

I agree. We definately have more than enough related catagories. You may just want to add one off-topic section for some of us to just chat about anything else under the sun. Also, use of the calendar option would be great! You could post important dates for scheduled maintenence, updates, patches, etc. cool.gif
Captain
Good suggestions... I will speak with Rick to see about getting these features added.

Wow! Thanks Captain biggrin.gif

Using the calendar isn't a problem. I will show Captain how to add events to it since he's much more aware of the MC event schedule than I am. Not to mention posting a new event is a cinch.

However, uploading pictures directly will NOT happen... at least without some serious contemplation prior hand. First of all, Invisionboard is a piece of software and by allowing uploads directly to the board, we open ourselves up to a potential security issue that doesn't need to exist (If you've noticed, even permissions to upload your own avatar has been removed - for you old timers tongue.gif). Second, there's no controlling what images are uploaded. Frankly, I'd rather not have to contemplate whether an image was appropriate or not, remove it, and have the member mad at me directly or at monstersmile.gif. Remember, you can upload images to another host and link to it directly. You could easily do this by using the FTP manager from within your store and sending a direct link to that image from within your post. I'm not trying to dicourage anyone from posting images, I'm merely trying to protect our board and server from any potential danger an uploaded file could cause.

Please continue to post any suggestions you might have.

Thanks...i figured that would be a factor..

Captain,

One thing that might be added is a forum or directory whereby we could express our interests in reciprocal link exchanges. This is an old idea that was discussed when the forum first came to us. Perhaps now would be a time for such a directory.

With all of the monstersmile.gif stores out there, I'm sure we could all find a few relevant link exchange partners.

Captain
Robert,

You are right on the money... as you know link exchanges are crucially important.

The marketplace we are building will provide an admin area where related sites are shown and will allow for one-click link exchange requests.

We also have another idea in the making (in relation to this topic) that will blow your mind... but will not share in this format b/c our competitors lurk in the forum regularly.

When the marketplace is launched... so will this feature. Give us 3 months.

Good things to come!

This would be useful. At the very top next to E-commerce - Web Design etc.,

add Bug Reporting and Feature Submisison data base links.

Hello -

The MonsterCommerce Team reviews bug submissions and new feature requests through our online trouble ticketing system. This way, our technical support representatives can address issues immediately and forward properly to members of our development team.

I have two requests. well actually one request and one question.

1. Can we add a spell check to the board. I read my posts sometimes and boy are they bad, I sound totally un-educated. tongue.gif

2. I see that the submit feature database page is now said to be in tech support, so everything we submitted to mymonstercommerce will do what? I think A dedicated page on the support site should be designated to add a feature, that way everyone can see features that are submitted and we could even do a live poll on the same page. with mymonster commerce it does not feel it is making in justice, even though we know it is, because almost everything we request is implemented.

Thanks
Captain
I have forwarded your requests... I agree with the spell check. I found a post I made today where I wrote "mussed" instead of "must". Spell check will make us all look a little bit smarter... hehe.

AdnanT
Hi LaTesha,

It is a really good idea to have MyMonsterCommerce.com show all the submitted features, we actually planned on doing this in the near future. We will also have a running poll where all store owners can be a part of choosing which feature gets implemented first. I will let everyone know when we start developing these new features into MyMonsterCommerce.com.
krazykickz
Thanks, that is cool.

For the time being, download and use IEspell from www.iespell.com if you want to use a spellchecker with the forums.

I've been investigating this matter for months and there isn't a logical solution as of yet for spellchecking forums. I'll be sure to let you know when or if this will happen in the future.

On link exchange...Captain, something that would automate the process like Link Manager would be great!

General observation. If you are looking for link partners try http://www.linkpartners.com. Searching is free. You can also search by category. My understanding is that google will love us most if we share links only with relevant sites.

I'm doing the link exchange thing for a new site that will "go monstersmile.gif" in two or three months. It takes about that much time for Google to find all of our partners. Link Partners has been very helpful.

Captain
that's the goal... link automation. smile.gif

robert
Captain, I hope the system you develop (1) allows us to reject requests from sites that do things not relevant to our own (and especially adult sites!); (2) uses a robot to make sure that the partner has our link up and keeps it up (by checking periodically); and (3) lets us maintain several thematic link pages rather than just one page with hundreds of links.

I would be willing to pay a little extra each month for this module.
saxongifts
You’ve already used it for leverage on the client side – now how about the employee side.

How about letting us vote for our favorite monstersmile.gif Tech Support Rep? Then each month you can reward the top rep w/ an all expense paid trip to Hawaii biggrin.gif .

JD gets my vote. He’s always on the ball. You should have a feature in v. 4.0 to clone him.

krazykickz
Hey they cannot be sending off our favorite monstersmile.gif's that will slow down development........lol...have to keep all on hand......maybe something interoffice... tongue.gif laugh.gif

Robert,

You have done your homework regarding link exchanges... well done. These are great suggestions and will most certainly be considered in the marketplace.
