I tried several times to get this done in custom programming but the cost was always too high. Listed below is a feature that I think should be added in the Category Manager to allow better control of your sub category page views on the website.

Basically the current Category Manager utility only allows you to add static HTML for the header of the website page when the sub category pages are displayed. There are several scenarios where you would want to show static HTML above and below the sub category pages just as you do on enhanced product pages. To get around this, I had to use the hide option on the sub category page so that I could completely build static pages showing my sub categories to allow better company descriptions, category descriptions and other tools that might be related to the categories. The hide option utility works great except for it not only hides your category from showing up dynamically, but it also hides the category and the products listed in the category from search results and also the SEO catalog. This of course is very bad due to my customers can not search my products and also my products are not showing up in the SEO catalog.

Here is a sample of how I doing static html for the sub categories versus dynamic sub categories with descriptions.

Using this method, it allows ecommerce companies that sell large amounts and various items from different manufactures to build entry points into the website for that particular product line or product type. This then allows you have a single point of entry for each product line or product type and use various Domain Names to point directly to the webpage that pertains to the products. This also allows ease of navigation due to you have several tools or information material that relates to that product set on a single point of entry. Here are some more examples on how I use it.

I sell represent several manufactures that make Pocketbikes and it allows me to have an entry point for each company and then have all the tools / information materials that pertain to that company on their webpage.

In order for this method to work, it would be nice to either have a second hide option added to the Category Manager utility, which would allow one hide option checkbox to hide the category from the search query and the SEO catalog and the other hide option checkbox to only hide the category links for static html webpage design. Or an easier but not as flexible option would be to add footer html input for each sub category so that you could add header html content along with footer html content.

Only my two cents of course, but this design is widely used on larger scale ecommerce websites such as the followings:

Bestbuy.com
Walmart.com
Etc.

The bottom line is, I just want my products to show up in the search queries and also on the SEO catalog but not by stripping down my site into a less content ecommerce site.

Please help...............................

Mike Shelley
