I searched around for this but just wanted to double check:

1. You can't use a Discount Code on a Gift Certificate can you (or any discount for that matter)?

2. Can you combine a discount code with say another discount code (and if you can, how can I set it so they can only use one discount at a time, cookie or code they enter at the end)

Currently discounts, such as a discount code, will apply to a gift certificate the same way that it would apply to any other product. If I enter a discount code during checkout that applies to the category the gift cert resides in, the discount will be applied to the cost of the gift certificate.


The only way that 2 discount codes could be used on the same order is if one were used as a cookie, and the other were to be entered in during the checkout process. This software is not designed to prevent this from happening... so if you have 2 discount codes available (one of which can be entered, and the other is a cookie) and your customer uses both, they will receive 2 discounts. There is not a way, however, for someone to use 2 discount codes if both must be entered (or if both must be used as a cookie).

Wow thats something I'll really need to keep an eye on then. You should have a way to exclude a 'Gift Certificate' from being discounted.

The way we get around this is by having all of our prodcuts except for the gift certs in a certain category, in our case a category called "Show All Products"

when we create a discount code we apply it to the category "Show All Products" thusly only the gift certs will not be included with any discount because they are not included in the category "Show All Products".
