senioremporium
Greetings all,

I will go straight to the point here. First, I am a newbie to MC after a major server crash that put this company out of business for a couple of months. and I had to rebuild the entire business pixel by pixel myself (figure of speech, but very close to reality).

The website I've been keeping on the top positions for their products is SeniorEmporium.com ( and I mean #1 to 10 rankings for about 4 straight years), that should translate to top sales too <?>. This is a small company ( please if anyone has the answer to this riddle to me) Pricing (i believe) is not the issue, positioning (i believe, since individual products also rank very high) may not be the issue... but the sales are not there.
Am I doing sometihng wrong?.. I ask for forgiveness as my forte is not business, but computers... in Xmas sales always increase, but as an average is poor.
Are we in the wrong line of business?

Please advise.

First of all, senior citizens in general, are not very web-savvy. My mom - who is in her 60s - just placed her first two online orders. I had to walk her through it over the phone. She was really scared, and still isn't sure if she'll get everything okay. There are two issues for her: Not knowing what to do, and a bit of mistrust.

Judging by some of your products, your audience may be even older, so they may need even more help.

1. Your first category is New Products Shop. For some people that may mean that this is where the new products are - the rest are used products. Perhaps you can rename it to New Arrivals, or something similar.

2. Perhaps changing the Buy button to say Add to Cart would work better. Also, if it's more prominent. The current button you have is a bit small and is lost on the page. Some older people don't see as well as they used to.

3. The Checkout button is (I think) a standard problem with monstersmile.gif sites. It should say Click Here to Checkout.

4. Further, most websites have links at the top of the page to the customer's shopping cart. It's redundant, yes, but try adding a link to the shopping cart in your top header along with a shopping cart image. Most sites have links to the carts in the header, and many customers who are web-savvy look for them there.

5. On the subject of your header, your links text are not all the same size.

6. The credit card logos and your phone number appear on the bottom of the home page only. They should carry over to every page. People tend to look for that when they're ready to buy.

7. To me the word "shops" implies that these are different stores. Perhaps "products" would be more descriptive.

I hope some of this helps.

One thing I noticed in the Arthritis section was that some of the products say View, and some say Buy. I think Patti's suggestion to Add to Cart would be worth changing. There were some things that I was buying when I really wanted to view - so maybe on the Click to Enlarge, change this to Click for Details.

The only other thing that I found that was a bit confusing, were the Incontinence products...and I'm easily confused. Do the under garments require the use of disposable products with them? For instance item HU36946 - the image kind of looks like part is laundered, but used with a disposable too. smile.gif

As you mentioned, not all seniors are internet savvy, their kids are. Stay with it & keep tweeking things here and there!

Best of luck!

One more thing:

It would be nice if the product title were a clickable link. I'm not sure why they aren't.

Many people may not know to click on the picture to view the item.

And I think Cookie had a great suggestion about Click for Details instead of Click to Enlarge.
