Ok, it's Friday, Urchin has been rolling since Monday/Tuesday, and I figure a good amount of you all have been checking your stats.
I know it's pretty soon, but what do you all think? You like it? Hate it? Better/Worse?
I....need.....FEEDBACK

Hmm.. Well I have no stats for Tueday 9/2

I'd say my stats are also unusually high for Thur 9/4 (being double an average day) but I also use a third-party stats service and it indicated double traffic as well on that day. I think my page rank went up or something
Besides that it's looking good. Some added features to it and whatnot... Personally, I like the pretty, colorful graphics of Deep Matrix - but hey, thats just me.

To me the information is easier to read. They are coming along on the graphics. Much better improvement of last version.
Cosmetics are important, but not as important as accurate information. I will keep chekcing it every couple of days and see how it is going then.

I won't yell or shoot you.....but having fought against DeepMetrix for over 6 months does make me see a haze of red every time I see the name.
I'll make you a deal. If you get a dedicated server, and purchase a LiveStats license, I will personally set up everything for you and you can use DeepMetrix.
I've said it before, and I will say it again, LiveStats, DeepMetrix runs great with anything under 100 sites, after that it becomes a nightmare.
So again, and this applies to everyone....I have no problems with customers who get DEDICATED server and purchase Livestats for their dedicated site, I have no problem setting it up and letting it run. But if it breaks more than 5 tmes I am gonna have to not support it anymore

Any information regarding the Tuesday stats issue?
adminguy
Sep 6 2003, 04:07 PM
I had posted on this in another thread...sorry. As I stated there, trouble with the upgrade has caused most of the customers to miss the update on Tuesday, so those stats are lost. Some customers we were able to manually run stats before the wednesday stats ran, but either stats got lumped together or are gone for Tuesday....and recovery is not an easily doable option....again I am sorry but I would appreciate it if we could all accept this was a bump in the upgrade process and move on.
If anyone here absolutely, positively has to have Tuesdays stats, we can try to get them for you. Requests must be put in via our ticket system and *must* be made before the end of September.
Hope that answers your questions.

As for us, don't worry about it. One day of stats is no biggie. Besides, as we mentioned we also use a third-party for stats so if we really need to get them they're available to us. Nice to know you guys are willing to try for someone who might really want them thou!

Urchin is looking a little better, little easier to read and also to present to others. I am happier with it now. Although, I would be extremely happy if Urchin can do the world graph that shows visitors from different parts of the world and U.S., it helps my business a lot. But, I can only wish, it probably will never happen.
Thanks for the upgrade though, it is a good improvement.

Actually, there is something close in Urchin now, in Domains and Users --> there are two options, "Countries" and "IP Addresses". Countries is a little different in that it does not provide info for .com, .net, .org, etc domains, and only differentiates actual country based domains like .mx, .ca, etc, etc.
Deep Metrix used to do the world graph by doing a lookup against the registered location of the ip address of the visitors in question (not like a traceroute but something similar to a who is). I will mention this as a customer request with Urchin and see if they have any thoughts or input on this.
Email regarding this has been sent to Urchin, so hopefully they will say "We'd love to roll a world map into version X.x, and will get right on it!"

We'll see...

Is there a way to get Urchin to display "what" product and subcat page that was visited. For instance I see the following:
/store.asp ->
/product.asp ->
/subcatmfgprod.asp
It would be nice to know what product and subcat the users visited from the home page.

Not yet....but I am looking into the options in this area (see previous posts, the problem is balancing things in a shared environment) and checking with the folks at Urchin on where their next version improvements are focusing.

Guess what? Here is the info I got fom my person at Urchin regarding the oft lamented and beloved "pretty world graphs" that Deep Metrix had:

Hi Adam,
We will be adding on two additional modules to the Urchin 5 product. Right now Urchin 5 is capable of advanced e-commerce (shopping cart) analysis when used in conjunction with a suitable ecommerce software package. When Urchin's ecommerce function is enabled, you will get two entire additional reporting sections, the "Ecommerce" and "Revenue Source", which comprise a total of 13 separate reports. These allow you to analyze not only the items sold, revenue earned, and value of referrals and search terms, but also tell you *where* your revenue will came from, down to the city level, based on buyers' addresses.
Toward the holidays, a forthcoming Campaign Tracking Module will include: - Detailed campaign tracking for email marketing, print ads, SEM, PPC, etc. - Multi-session ROI back to the original and most recent campaigns - Ratio reporting - And more...tba.
Then we will add a GeoTargeting Module, which will include: - Detailed geographic information about visitors to your website - Ecommerce and Campaign Tracking Module integration - A monthly updatable database of IP address locations down to the zip code level - And more...tba.
|
I want to first point out that the ECommerce tracking options are still being evaluated and most likely from what I can see will not be part of standard stats information, same with the advanced mail and related tracking items. This is just because of the overhead and resource usage on the shared stats offering these itmes would entail (although I am working on definitely making these available to dedicated customers with their own dedicated Urchin instance if needed). I will post more info on that as time and research permits.
The really good news though, is that the GeoTargeting module should finally contain and lock down where your visitors are coming from, to an EVEN GREATER degree of detail than Deep Metrix!!! That's right, from what I am getting from Urchin, we are looking at possibly nbeing able to track a person to the zip code, meaning you should have a good idea of even the city your visitors come from!!!!
The benefits to this are kind of hard to even count, imagine being able to run an ad in your city, or the one next to you, and see how effective it seems to have been, etc, etc....it's really good! I am hoping this extra GeoTracking option will not bog down the machines and in any case will continue to evaluate possible options, I really want our customers to have this particular feature when it is available!
I will let you all know more when I have a clearer timeline of when these new Urchin features are coming.

That is awesome! I am starting to like Urchin now.
Hey Admin, if it isn't included in the standard package will you allow others to purchase the extra features even if they don't have a dedicated server?
Thanks

That is something else I am looking into/working on. Before we even hit things like how much or what the cost to charge ratio/margin is (all the Captain and others type world), I basically have to do tons of testing for how stuff works, how to fix it (since we have to support our customers using the product, even if not developed by us), and a lot of other related factors.
Then we try to reach that middle ground on how many people paying how much can go on a machine without killing it and also not cost us more than we make, etc, etc......so I am sure we will work something out in the relatively near future, I just don't have a fixed timeline to tell you "by X date we will have this or that particular serivce or item ready". Obviousl the closer we get the sooner I will be able to give a realisitic timeline for expectations or the final word on what we decide to do.
I am glad you are getting used to and starting to like Urchin though.

I think v 5.0 is big advancement in terms of GUI and functionality. It actually returns Domain info! The prior version never did that (for me at least).
The upgrade was seamless on this end. Well done.

I'm getting used to 5.0. It does have alot of additional features (you just need to look for them). We look forward to the future functionality!

Not exactly, but we are very close to allowing implementation of the UTM (Urchin Tracking Module). We are working on both getting tech support informed/trained on this, our provisioining people trained on this, and all other items needed to get this in place. I will post a specific thread regarding this when implementation is ready or otherwise in place.

Thanks guys. I look forward to the UTM implementation, as I'm sure many other

clients are as well.

I just read about at urchin's site. This sounds a lot like the functions I enjoy from a third party. You guys implement this and looks like I can scrap the other stats and save 20-30 bucks a month. Nice work. Any idea on a timeline for this implementation?

Urchin Tracking Module (UTM) Information and Overview -
http://help.urchin.com/index.cgi?&id=999Timeline to implementation is somewhere in December, or beginning of January at the latest. Biggest issue is/will be that the UTM will require some code for people using it to put into all their pages (i..e top of page header, etc, etc)....if they do not do this then Urchin will not collect any data for pages not providing this code in the stats processing mode (once UTM is turned on). Basically I see this option as being a per request item that we enable and give customer the code to put into their page(s).
