I would like to ask on how to remove the example thumbnal image - sample product from the main page located in the middle between the homepage message section and the news section?

Sounds like maybe the homepage special is checked for the sample product. Bring up the product, then edit, then uncheck the homepage special checkbox which is the 1st checkbox on the right hand side of the 4th section of the product information editor (about halfway down the page).
