Full Version: Possible To Add Special Fees To Certain Items?
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?

Does anyone know whether or not it's possible to add additional fees to predetermined items during checkout? My client will be shipping glass and other items which may require special packaging. He would like to include a special packaging or crating fee for these and similar items.

Has anybody else done something similar with their carts?

If you use product editor>advanced options, you can put a negative number in the discount field. Then you can hide regular price and put the price plus info in the display message field.

For example, $5.00 (plus $1 winter handling fee). In this case, if you put -.20 in the disc field it will calculate out the extra charge on the item after added to cart...during checkout. Only problem with this is that cart now displays the text PRICE (Discounted). Not great, but it does work.

You can also simply increase the 'weight' entered for a given item and this will increase the shipping cost. For instance, if you had 2 separate items that each weigh 5 pounds, but one of them needs to cost more to ship because of the extra packaging material, just change the weight for that item to 6 pounds (or 7, 8 or whatever).

Since the 'weight' that you enter is not visible to the customers, the charges will just show up as more on the shipping calculation page.

Now that's a much simpler way...lol. Good tip!

Thanks for the suggestions... unfortunately, I found that this problem has a slightly different twist that doesn't rely on product weight for determining the needed surcharge.

My client informed me of the following:
When a customer orders glass, there will be an additional charge of $4 (for every 12pcs). 12pcs fit in a box. So, with every 12 pcs of glass ordered, an additional $4 will need to be added to the total price to cover the cost of the box.

There are some other items that will require similar handling.

This crating/boxing surcharge will be a flat fee that's not based on weight, but will be in addition to the shipping costs calculated by weight.

Is something like this possible to sort out with the MC Cart?
