Full Version: Eliminate Break Below Side Cart Header?
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterWebDesign > Design Aspects

Has anybody had line break issues when attempting to add custom headers to the side cart?... actually what I think I need is a hardcoded <br> tag just after the header that I'm working with. Trouble is, I don't have access to the ASP source code for changes. Any suggestions?

The site is still under lock-down until I've completed all development work, but a static version of the site's first page can be accessed at: https://www.student.gsu.edu/~dwhitcomb1/gsgs.htm

Hey dtwdesign
Awesome looking banner. I read and reread your posted question (nope, we dont have access to the asp), and looked at the site page--Im not sure what you are asking?
Can you be more descriptive about what you are trying to accomplish, and what the issue is?

When I did my custom work on my site, I didn't encounter any line break issues. Just have to make sure that everything is sized correctly.

MartiniGuy,

Thanks for the reply and compliment on the site. On the right side of the site there's what appears to be a small break just below the "Your Cart" header graphic. I had intended for there to be no break in between the header graphic and the shaded area below.

I assumed that everything was sized correctly because a similar sized graphic used for the "Checkout" button (see https://www.student.gsu.edu/~dwhitcomb1/gsgs2.htm) worked fine... no line break and everything aligned correctly.

Experimenting with the html returned to my browser, I found that I could hard code a <br> just after my "Your Cart" header graphic to correct the problem. The only problem here, however, is that I do not have access to the ASP code maintained by Monster Commerce. If I had access to the ASP code, I'd make the change myself and be done with things, but such is not the case in a shared server environment.

I was just wondering if anyone knew of a configuration in the admin panels that I may have missed.

doh.gif Correction to the link in the previous posting... having the right parenthesis smashed up against the address created a problem. The address should have been https://www.student.gsu.edu/~dwhitcomb1/gsgs2.htm

Martini Man,
He's talking about this parens--at the end of his page link:

He corrected it in his next post a few minutes later.
Maybe, now you can help him out--I sure can't--I'm more lost than he is. laugh.gif

I can see the line, but I don't know how to fix it.

Perhaps if you didn't have the vertical alignment = top for the image?

I have no idea.

Thanks anyways gang... I have the feeling that this is a design snafu that I'm just going to have to live with.

Are you talking about the small white space under the header-cart.gif and the cart? If so, just set the bg color for the entire column to the lightest blue color you are using--it should fill in.

Maybe my eyes are not working today, but if what I referenced above isnt the issue, Im not seeing anything amiss? (perhaps another martonix would help).

You're correct, MartiniGuy... I had actually considered changing the background to WHITE as a last ditch effort if removing the space wasn't possible. I had also considered lightening things up as you've suggested. I was just hoping to keep the same shade as what's seen on the other side of the page while closing up the gap. No biggie.

Thanks.

Try using a blue background image slice as both cart background image and right column image. Look slike a background image was used for left side colum..repeat reverse for right side. I wopul dthink the white space should disappear.

Not sure why it is there. I dont recall seeing that when I used a side cart with solid background/image.

By the way, I agree...very cool header/logo graphic.

Hey dtwdesign
I didnt mean to lighten up or make changes. Just use the light blue color you are using (I think it's #D8DEE5 from what I could grab-not a websafe color?) as the bg color for the column. It seems like it would fill in the gap.

If it's still a problem, it would seem like you could actually "duplicate" the gap by adding a 2 pixel white line to the checkoutnow.gif. Sounds odd, but it might work and look like it was planned.

Once again, it's a wonderful design. Good luck with the build.

SRG/MartiniGuy,
Thanks for the suggestions. SRG, it's interesting that you've mentioned duplicating the background graphic for the right side of the page. I was pondering something very similar to this last night when providing a status update to my client.

I'm thinking about trying to create a background graphic with the lighter blue color as mentioned and then possibly adding a custom section just below the cart. The custom section will just be a table cell filled with white. If this can be stretched to 100% I may be able to overlay the background graphic... possibly giving me the docked cart effect that I'm hoping for.

I'll let you know my findings once I've had a chance to experiment.
