I should probably wait longer I suppose to see on average, how many time google bot hits my site. But how does one know when google is doing a deep crawl according to Urchin.

Googlebot hit my site 187 time the first day, 363 the second day, and 699 the third. Its safe to assume the more times google hits your site the better? The main reason I got Urchin was for SEO purposes so I just want to make sure I am looking at these right.

Any help would be appreciated

Good Morning Justyn,
I also look at the stats that you just mentioned, for the amount of hits from each bot. You can also see the amount ot KB or MB the bot/spider "ate" too, in the second of the two drop down selections under robots. Then when you open those windows, you can click on the little graph all the way over on the right side of each bot's visit. It will give you a nice breakdown of the visits.
Good luck,

V. good question Justyn - I was looking at those stats this morning & was wondering what exactly the bytes drill down represented. Could it be the depth of the crawl? For instance, m*n was 18.89 MB and G**gle was 3.74MB.

I'm freaking out about the fact that Yah** has ignored us for the past 3 weeks! blinking.gif

Hey Justyn.
You are right, the more hits and kb the deeper the crawl.
As the folklore goes (You know there are no real "truths" here smile.gif ) the more often there is fresh content on your site, the more "motivated" the G*****bot will be to return for visits more often.

I saw G*** for about 12+megs last night; I like that...

This is very odd though: at roughly 9pm, my pageviews last night shot through the roof...went from about 100 at 8 to 3500 at 9am. I looked through IP info and drilled, but Im not figuring out what the heck happened. blinking.gif

ahhh I see. So since google likes fresh content thats why refreshing your catalog daily or weekly as opposed to monthly "could" help these bots keep a closer eye on your site.

Wow, 12.56 mb from the Googster yesterday as opposed to 2.40 from monday and 4.99 from tuesday. Another question (and thank you all for answering my others happy.gif ) .. To get a better idea of how many people visited my site is should I be looking at pageviews?

Hey Agkits.
Pageviews will tell you how many pages in your site were addressed. One visitor could have viewed 1 or a dozen.
"Sessions" are really going to tell you the number of visitors, but even that could be sketchy...if a person has a dynamic IP (most ISP's provide dynamic versus static) and they visit a few times, each will show a new session.
Hope that helps!

Great thanks! I think im starting to get the hang of things... I like looking at how long people stayed at pages ... either some people read slow or they left it on there screen or were debating on the price ...but some people stay on single pages for long periods of time. I know some of the are actually me lol happy.gif from editing but other I know arent and people are there for 12 min ... 15 min. This who urchin thing is kinda neat.

You are very welcome.
It's interesting to watch changes occur and to see history develop. Just like the stock market, you should take some time to look at a broad perspective of information, and not just the day to day.
