okay, trying to launch the new site by oct 25...(yikes)

I am setting up shipping options....currently on the old site my boss prettty much sends the customer an email with the shipping quote (we carry alot of heavy equipment and our products come from all over)

now we are trying to add shipping costs into the product price so basically customers will not be charged shipping....

but on some of the items we will have to calculate shipping after the customer orders (say they order two products both coming from different manufacturers in different states..hmm...can I set this up per manufacturer...i wonder)

anyways, any help would be awesome..

thanks

Last I heard, there's no real solution for this. I've asked about seperate origin zips for each product (warehouse, or manufacturer) in the past, but I don't know if it's on MC's To-Do list.
Warehouse would be the best bet IMO.
Sorry I couldn't help, but maybe someone has a workaround. smile.gif

Judy,
I have the same type of problem, only with oversized items.
If a customer orders 3 large sheets they get charged shipping for 210 lbs. (each sheet ships at the UPS OS3 rate 70 lb, although most don't weigh this much we had to enter the shipping weight at 70lbs, because there is no support for the dimensions yet) But since I can ship them in the same package I tried to find a way to combine them, as the high shipping can lose a lot of sales.

I found that if I set up a custom shipping method based on weight that I could let me let the customer know that we will contact them with the shipping charges before processing their order. (for us it was anything over 139lbs)

Perhaps you could set up the items that you want to give a shipping quote on at a weight of "5000 lbs" (or any weight would work as long as it doesn't interfere with your normal shipping) and then set up your custom shipping method to recognize that any order over 4999 lbs gets the shipping quote on the checkout page. Just a thought.

I hope I explained it properly, not too hard once you get into the custom shipping methods.

thanks guys, what about the products that have shipping added into the cost? as long as I have checked the "free shipping" box in the product editor these should be exempt, right?

so I really need a shipping quote for all items that do not have free shipping....how would I set that up? custom shipping set by weight at 1 lb...would this work? (hope I am making sense-i have been working on the computer all day in a room that is getting painted...i think the fumes have killed some brain cells!)

it is a real drag that you cannot setup a zipcode per manufacturer for shipping and have the real-time work off of this...

any more advice is greatly appreciated!

Judy
