Hi,
I've been a web designer for 2 years and I would like to design actual buttons - not just text links - for my left navigation. Can I do that? If so, how?
Thank you

You can easily implement graphical buttons for your left navigation. Once you have done so, go to your admin panel under site html then to the navigation bar editor and insert the html for your buttons and mark the drop down bar underneath the html window for load custom. Or if you want some of the dynamically generated navigation as well, like your More Information links to show up, mark the drop down bar to say Use Custom and Defaulty (Load Custom First). Oh and don't forget to upload your graphics to the images folder in the File Management area in the admin panel and make sure your image source path references where you placed the image ie: images/button.gif.

Custom html does indeed work, but I found that the page loading time is so much greater, even when graphics were kept to a minimum, that I switched back to the default code that monstercommerce generates.

I found using a combination of layers and style sheets create a much better effect than the static menu

gives you. Besides, divs let you push those words closer to the top of your page, which is better for spiders, being some don't read meta descriptions, so be sure to use keyword rich content. Text links are much better for the spiders as well, if your going to use graphics don't forget your alt tags, they look for that too.

We use the top header for our menu, not the left nav, but were able to design text links that resemble buttons. If thats an option it's a nice merger of the two styles.

Hello,
Can someone please explain how to customize your left side navigatin button or add some HTML to that side.
I see people talking about it and say go into your Admin > HTML > Navigation Button (HTML), I just don't have this selection on my Admin Menu.
Do you have to turn something on to get this to work?
Thanks in advance..

I use:
Site HTML -> Navigation Bar Editor
Enter the customer code there. After entering your HTML a drop-down menu offers a series of options (basically, to use custom code, default code, or both - and the order in which they appear). If you need a little more detail let me know...

Hello CBHale!
I have added this option for you CBHale. It appears in the setup of your store, that one option was not checked in your permissions in your Admin >> Admin Editor. So I have since updated, and you can start working on it.

Scorpio be very careful when implementing CSS into MC shopping carts. MC already utilizes CSS for their carts so you will have to be very careful and either emulate the MC CSS or make sure that yours is called from outside of where the MC CSS is stored like maybe the root directory.

Thanks Sabres00 - I thought I was really missing the BIG picture for awhile. It seems like eveyone had it but me.
I will play with it as soon as I get a chance.
