Nice job, crash!

I think Im going to recreate my link exchange page in html.

Ben,

create the html page, upload to your root directory (or whatever hierarchy of folders you want) and there they are! Im making an ebay directory to put ebay pages for easy creation of ebay products and links. Also, Im putting in a newsletter directory and creating monthly html pages with dates in name so that they can be referenced from another page, by date. It also makes it easier to send the newsletters. Since getting dreamweaver and working with it, lots of possibilities have opened up! smile.gif
Kman
looks good, can I ask why you chose to have your directory pages in HTML as opposed to just using the custom page editor?
crashingflwrgrl
Sure Kman. I am trying to add more html content to my site specifically for search engine purposes. In the process I hope to evenly spread my PR to other pages of my site - including my links page. This way I may be able to entice better linking partners. I have also recently added a taillights.htm page which is already ranking for me! And I have also begun cross linking (thanks PK!) on each of my product pages (under short description) using html.

Besides...I enjoy doing it and it keeps me busy (busier?).

Thanks for the input guy's. I think I'll get to work on my headlights.htm now!

Is this more SEO friendly than Related Products?

NO - it just going to appear a little higher on the page.
crashingflwrgrl
Related products are great and I use them where I can. However (too me) cross linking is more about creating a "path" for the spiders, and ensuring they don't come across any "orphaned" pages that they get stuck on.

The only cross linking I've done so far is in my taillights section....

Such as: Altezza Euro Taillights for Acura Integra brought to you by coolights.com.
(Whereas the "Altezza Euro Taillights" links to that section and "Acura Integra" is linked to taillights for Integra).

Next I'll be adding keyword rich long descriptions in html.

I've seen bounces decrease from my html catalog because the link is more prominent and (I think) customers are clicking through to another page instead of just abandoning the one they clicked into.

I also added the search box and am hoping for another decrease in bounces!

It does look great I agree but I think you need to becareful of falling foul of link link farming which I believe will be clamped down on in future Google algorithms.

Bearing in mind linking to other sites can be an endless tasks as the more the better (generally this is true for related sites but a few high PR non related sites won't harm you) your page will in theory continue expanding forever. I would look forwrad and split that page down in to catagories. This is for a number of reasons...

1) Google has trouble spidering more than 100 links per page so could be loosing some valuable relavance if it doesn't spider all the outgoing links.

2) If this list continues to expand and google tightens down on link farms it could be seen as one and incur a penalty. All said and done I think this is remote as they are all related links.

3) More valuable anchor text. If you break the sections down and can use keywords in your anchor text then all the better for your site. Especially if for example you used the word 'Nissan modifications' which could be useful words for your site. Under that would links to Nissan Modifications so the page would be very very relavant to the link which is good. Obviously there is a line to how much effort you can put it in. the above example maybe going to the n'th degree and too difficult to manage.

4) You can have a general links page and get some high PR quality links in that arnt related to your site so won't dilute the relavance of the links in the more relevant areas e.g. shopping directories or partnerships you enter into (maybe with friends that have helped you with your advice etc innocent.gif )

5) In the future if you do come to a point where you need to split your not going get a whole host of people complaining their link has disappeared cause you moved them all.

I would put 5 or 6 catagories, not more as it still could look like a farm, put the links in their and save the actual page you have existing for extra special link exchanges as it is a high PR. Some sites will only link to one click from home page or PR4 minimum etc so using that page could be good sales for special arrangements.

Does all that make sense?

If your not aware, using underhand techiques to further your SEO is can be termed Black hat SEO techniques and include hiding link pages with Robots.txt or javascript so it looks like everyone is linking to you and your so good you don't need to link back and so on. Thing is it's a dog eat dog world out there so it depends on how far you would go with your morals. For me I don't mind getting very general links to unrelated sites that have at least a PR of 1 or 2 and then kind of, erm, how should I say, editing the general page so there is more room for some more after a few months. The big link farms won't monitor and you get a free link when google spots it's dropped off your page and so on. A lot of these pages have a massive number of links so not that useful anyway but still better than a kick in the teeth. It's the only way you can get 1000's of links without having a massive link farm so many others must do the the same. Not the nicest thing to do but be assured people will do it to you!!

All IMHO so comments always welcome.

Erm, just to add that PR goes up as well as down so continuing changes can make your PR fluctuate. You have a very good PR of 4 for your main site and Pr 3 for your links pages which is also pretty good so you may be happy with this. Any changes may affect your PR negatively in the short term so it's your deicision to go long term or stay with the ranking/business you have now...

Just thought I would add that in. Am no expert in SEO as no one can really be as no one knows the algorithem. Just giving ideas for you to try / investigate....

I add this is as you do have a good PR and would feel guilty if it went down in the short term. If it works for you stick with it. unsure.gif

Figured I would let you know you have 2 borken picture links for Monay order and for Western Union at the bottom of the page otherwise it looks just great.........

We have a massive link exchange program with hundreds of partners. I have not had a problem getting partners even though we use asp pages (custom pages). I have had a couple of people raise the issue, but I simply point out that my link pages have a Google PR of 4, and that usually addresses any concerns.

Hi Robert,

WOW.. it's nice to see that you actually have pagerank on most of your link pages with those crazy URL's. I just started link pages and I just never thought we would be able to get any rank the way the pages are named.
I have a question not pertaining to links.

I LOVE the way your left side navigational bar is. I've been trying to do something like that for days now but unfortunately, I'm a newbie when it comes to this darn html coding. Was it very difficult to do? Could you give me any hints on how to do that?

Also... I like the way you have your shopping cart set. I've been trying to get rid of all of my right side navigation but unfortunately, I can't figure out where to put the shopping cart. I would like to do something similar to yours. Could you help guide me on how to do this?

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me!!

Yes, I agree with many of the points made regarding link farms. To read more about link farms and how to avoid getting penalized by the search engines, I highly recommend reading this post from WebMasterWorld forums.

I hope this information helps! bigsmile.gif
crashingflwrgrl
When I first started this thread I had little more than 30 links on the page. It's grown since then to about 60. Google's own website reads that 100 links per page is okay. Which is why I'm not worried about being labeled a "link farm"....yet.

When I get close to 100 I will organize the links in a directory.
northernladuk
I would go for directories straight away for a number of reasons....

1. When you move the links webmasters that check or use link checkers will get cheesed off and quite possibly remove your link without telling you. Either that or you get loads of mails asking for confirmation

2. By creating them you keep the number of links down so no danger of over populating the page and alerting google and the other SE's

3. If you have pages with PR and just a few links then quality sites will be more interested in linking to you as a lot more PR will be passed. I don't bother applying to sites with a massive page of links even if its PR 5+ but a PR 3 or 4 page thats just started with only one or two links is very useful

There is a limit to the number of links google process's on a page and I think it's 100. By splitting your page down you won't have to worry.
