OK, last night I added some of our main category links at the bottom, as well as a search box at the top of our catalog pages. Now all of a sudden, I see that annoying red "X" near the top of the page.

How can I get rid of it, when it doesn't even show when I view the test pages!
Here is the first page:

Same thing happened to me. It's the pesky little spacer gif.
Change this: <IMG src="Images/spacer.gif">

That happened to me once, only it was the whole banner. It was like that for over a month because I never checked it. The preview looked fine, so I never thought to go back and check.
Maybe I should check now . . . I made some changes last night.

I made some too and absolutely love the search idea! I think it will make a big difference in the exits and bounces. At least, I
hope it makes a big difference.
By the way, I knew about the spacer because I did the same thing with my changes. Although,

I fixed it and then submitted a ticket to get the

logo at the bottom removed because sometimes it's removed and sometimes it's not. When it's not, I usually don't bother worrying about it. But I did have this ulterior motive this time.

What level catalog are you all on? I made changes the other day and have not seen the update yet. Just wondering when it normally hits for the 7 day update.

I'm on level 3 because I've been adding new products like a mad woman.

I'm on level 2. It gets updated on Monday mornings...
I'm still looking for that:

OK, I just found it and replaced it with PK's suggestion! So far so good with THAT page.
Hmmm, now I see the red "X" on the other test page in a different spot. And when I tried to find the spacer img I should replace, it didn't find it on the page. The "X" is near the "Test Product Description 8" text, on the Preview Product page.
The search continues for the estranged (or should I say STRANGE) red "X"!!!
Thx,

My catalog has not updated and it appears that products listed are well over the 7 day update period. Aside from a ticket, what is easiest way to check last update date on those pages?

Don't worry about the red x on the text pages. If you update it, it will update throughout all of your pages and be fine. I didn't see it anywhere else.

I'd say a ticket is it. They're pretty responsive to the tickets I've placed about my catalog.

It's the same image, I think.
It's all tied into your top of page editor.

SRG: I'd give Tech Svc a call, they can look up when your last update was.
PK: As always THANKS!!!
I already added some links to product pages tonight, got tired of that for a while...
OK, what kind of trouble can I get myself into now...
What's next???

I think I'm retiring early tonight. Got alot accomplished today because I didn't go to work.
Wow, can't wait for the day that I can sleep late and go to bed early EVERY day.
My classes started today, so I'm sure I'll have a few more sleepless nights ahead of me for awhile.

How does that old song go?
School days, school days, they're the golden rule days, or something like that.
Good luck with your degree!
Good Night All.
And good night to you too, little red "X"! LOL...

In the SEO pages, you should be able to reference the images simply with /images/picture-name.jpg
You do NOT want to include your domain in the path. I went back and forth with a tech one time on this issue and I did it with the domain once as that was what I was finally told. The new pages updated and none of my pictures showed up. Suffice to say I made them regenerate my pages for free. All well, no big deal, but that is how you want to do it.
If that doesn't work, then something is wrong with your site and tech support needs to fix it.

Ticket answered. No date on when update was run. but they went ahead and updated manually today. I was told Friday is the level 2 update day...unless different servers have different days.
Now that it is updated I get a broken image next to my search box. I'll have to read this thread and see how to get rid of it.
Ben N
Aug 31 2004, 07:29 AM
Yes, they probably update different servers on different days. Because I made the changes to our catalog Sunday night, and it showed the changes on Monday AM.
PK's solution worked for the first red "X", but I'll see when my next update occurs, if the second one is gone too. I think it should be...

Are you talking about the thumbnail and product image? Looks like you have a broken image for that product:
Breadman MachineYou need to fix that.

No, actually that is for a Breadman cookbook that I cannot find a pic for. I'll put something in there that says image not available.

I agree with newage that you shouldn't have to add the domain path, but for some reason you do in the catalog. I had the same problem with other links.
It will always work with the domain included, but some prefer to use relative links. There are theories that relative links are better for the search engine spiders. I haven't noticed any difference one way or another for the absolutes that I have incorporated in my html pages.
Here's an article on the difference between absolute and relative links:

Fixed my spacer issue. Path fro 'spacer' in search box html I copied from site was incorrect. Showed as <img src="Images/spacer.gif"> changed to <img src="/Images/spacer.gif">
Am not putting in domain path unless this fix didnt work.
Just moved to daily level 3. Aside from mainitaining current products, does the daily refresh help with SE's?

It's more betterer now...
I put the image not available pic in there.
I also added the word THE to the title, so now that product is at the bottom of the page instead of in spot #1.
