As if I wasn't confused enough, I searched the forums for information on how to set up my order confirmation e-mails to include the tracking number. Now I'm so confused I don't know which way is up?
So, using real-time shipping methods, UPS only, how do I customize my order confirmation e-mails to include the tracking number?????

When you put the tracking number in the tracking number box and mark the order as complete it should auto send it.

If you go to your admin panel, and click on Site Information, it will bring you to the Order Settings page. If Auto-Send Email on Order Completion is marked Yes, then it will automatically send the shipment confirmation to the customer when you mark the order as completed. Just make sure you enter the tracking number before you mark it completed.
It will also email whatever is in the order notes box, but not what is in the admin notes box. (But you might want to do a test order for yourself to make sure.)
The order completion emails are really basic and not very pretty, but then most of the companies I've done business with have a similar basic setup.

Is there anyway to edit the emails that are sent out?? They are VERY basic and look unprofessional.

I don't think you can change the "order complete" emails.
If I'm wrong, I hope someone will not only correct me, but tell me how to do it.

No, I don't think you can change them, but I'd sure love to be able to do so!

Hello Everyone -
There is not currently a way to edit the emails when an order changes status, but it is currently under development

It will first be available to our VIP members, which you can find more information about
HERE. The current ETA for when this will be available as a beta feature to VIPs is about 3-4 weeks. There is no definite estimate for when it will be available to everyone as a core feature, but I would estimate around 3-4 months.
Thanks for the great feedback!!

Yes that feature is needed VERY badly ... unfortunately, the order complete emails look like they were written by a four year old.
Why can't the order completion email be in the same format as the order confirmation email ... that only makes sense to me?
What does everyone else think?

I think it would just be nice if it were friendlier. Just a nice thank-you-for-your-order-and-we-appreciate-your-business type of note. AND, if it's not asking too much, that if include our contact information.
I'd love to be able to customize it.

This is what I get from another shopping cart provider that I work with:
NOTE: The image will probably be a little blurry as IE likes to shrink it to fit the page.
CLICK HERE FOR SHIPMENT CONFIRMATION IMAGETo me this is perfect. Very professional. It gives the customer that added boost of confidence that they have made a purchase from a great company.
As far as I know this is just a basic HTML email confirmation ... so it cannot be that hard to implement.
What are the chances that we might see something like this in the very near future?

Brad is right on the money.
This is something which we'll add for VIP members in the upcoming weeks as BETA and will not be implemented into core code for quite some time (6 months minimum).
I agree it's a needed feature, but there is simply no room to squeeze it into our core code updates as it stands now.
If you want more info on what is happening for the next few months of development, please see this thread
here.

I just took a look at that thread ...
Can you give us a listing of what bugs in particular are going to be patched?

Is it possible for customers to track their orders when using the custom shipping option, if I manually enter the tracking codes? I use UPS, DHL, and USPS usually.
Or, is it only available for real-time shipping?
This would really be helpful so that I dont waste time tracking down packages for customers when they could do it themselves...

Since it seems these emails won't be editable for a bit, here's a workaround you could try...
Dump your orders into Word or outlook and do an email merge (you'll probably need dataport). Then, when you set up the shipment using your respective carrier, have the carrier email the customer with tracking info and links. UPS and FDX do this, and I imagine the rest do, too. Any other workaround ideas to manually customize?

Commerce.
It appears that since this is a very basic text in the program code can it be changed on your end to be more professional and friendly as some of these posts suggest and not make us wait or become testers in the VIP area.
We understand that us making changes like we do in other areas will take programing time on your end.
Thanks
Dave

Commerce,
I second ParkerYamaha. In our previous version 3.x the e-mail was much better.

We may be able to change the text of the email to sound better prior to the timeline stated above. I can't guarantee anything at this point, but I will have a much nicer bit of text written up and sent to development to squeeze it into the next release (which still won't be until September, but 2 months is certainly sooner than 6).

One of my sites does 50+ orders per day, there is no way that they would be able to enter the tracking number into the order before changing it to complete.
What we have is an order tracking page that the consumer just enters their order number from the site and they are given their shipping details.
And, I think I managed to customize the e-mail enough so that the consumer can find that info without looking. Cause we all know that none of them look past the end of their nose.
