Does anyone know what most users have their screen settings at?

800x600 or 1024x768

I have realized that my settings are at 1024x768 - everything looks great.

However, at 800x600 - wow! terrible w00t.gif

45 to 47% are still using 800 x 600 40%+ uses the 1024 x 768

Remember if you switch to the 800 pixels make your page width no more then 780 pixels. You have to make it less to take into account the borders of the browsers.

Thank you for the responce Birdman. I'll check the width of my pages.

You can make your site so that it works at the smaller screen size, but than stretches to the larger screen size when needed.
Our site does this and looks pretty good, although things do look bigger in the smaller screen size and somewhat weird, but they don't change lines or move around.

What is the best way to change your website display settings??? I currently have my site set to 800x600. I did this by making all of my main product images 200 pixels wide, but some customers that use a much high resolutions complain about small product images.

Does anybody have a suggestion on how to fix this and keep everybody happy?

In the "more information" field of the product editor form you can provide a link to a large resolution image of the product. For most of our products we have three images: thumbnail, product image, and "high resolution" image.

We usually go with a 300 pixel size as our main picture size and a 100 pixel size for our thumbnails. But I agree with Robert that a third size can be used to easily bridge the gap between different screen sizes.
I would say with most sizes of sites and pictures its best to use percentages than pixels, because the browser will automatically resize the site to the size of the screen.
How do you do that? Depends on the program you are using, check the help file or look for a support forum for the software you are using.

Strapworks, it looks like great minds do indeed think alike! biggrin.gif A max of 300px at its widest was our initial standard as well, although we eventually changed the standard for our site to a max of 350px wide for the main product image, and a max of 150px wide for the thumbnails (at 2 thumbnails per row).

But certainly 300 is safe, and it still looks great!

Actually keep your thumbnails between 70 and 100 pixels wide. Your Product page picture shouldn't be any larger than 400 pixels wide ideally 300 is what you should save them as. If you wanted to have an option to display a larger photo use your description field in the Product editor and provide a link for a popup window that houses a larger picture, this way you won't screw up the page formatting or cause people to have to horizontally scroll, faux pas.

This is also a problem I struggles with, but I went with a 780 pixel wide site that is centered in a table, I think it looks pretty good on most resolutions.
