Does anyone know if it's possible to issue a store credit? We have a new policy that if a product has been used then we will only issue a store credit versus a full refund. Off hand I keep thinking I can manipulate the gift certificate somehow, but without wasting too much time thought I should start here first, Thanks!

You'll need to create a gift certificate manually for the amount. This is tough right now, but I understand that in 4.0 we'll be able to create these easily.

You'll need to set up a custom payment option to get the system to issue the GC number.

This is currently the way I handle any refunds/credits. I also use this to for the hostesses with my home party. We simply issue a gift certificate for 10% of the total party minus any shipping!

yes, with v4.0 u can issue MANUAL Gift Certificates. So These could be used as your Store Credits. Remember, Manual GFC's are not trackable as a ITEM. But can be used by a customer like any GFC.
