If I want to have like a 2 week sale, how do I change the prices for the entire site? I have Dataport, if that helps.
Also, could I have the sale price show in red?

You can do a discount code issue a discount that way.
Of course you would either need to email it to them or post it in a link on the page
Admin>Inventory> Discount Code Editor
Maybe this will fit your needs.

This is why I like to use the markup feature rather than having fixed prices assigned to all products. Very easy to change the price of an entire category with one field change.
Another way, if you have dataport and excel, do the following...
(1) Copy the 'price' column into the 'list' column.
(2) Create a column next to the price column, do a calculation for the cells of =sum(price*.90) for a 10% discount.
(3) Copy newly calculated cells and paste into Word or something to get rid of formula, copy and paste back into 'price' column.
(4) Delete new column created
(5) Upload and you have created a sale price of list less 10%.
(6) Go into site layout and turn on strike list price feature for line through list price.

Thanks SRG. I really need to get excel because I know it would be so fast to go that way. I'd get Excel if it were under $50 to buy just that.
For now, I've been using Dataport. There is the site wide discount feature too, but I'd only want this for certain categories.

Yeah, using excel with dataport gives you a lot of freedom to make quick changes and upload. Highly recommend getting excel too.
(I promise I dont sell software...lol)

You can use the markup feature, like we do in our site. It works really well. Just check the markup feature for the product and enter the markup amount in the category editor. All the products within that category that have the markup feature checked will use that percentage markup. Now you can just change the pecentage and change all the prices.

Okay, I'm going to try this out tomorrow when I have time to fiddle with it. Sounds like a good thing.

MonkeyFly - you may be interested in this older version of Excel 97 (although the price is $75 and includes Word 97) ..

Yes by far the best way is the percentage markup option
You might also take a look at Open Office
www.openoffice.org
We have also used that on some machines in place of Microsoft

Jim,
I am just guessing since I don't use this particular method... but if you change (lower) the percentage of markup on a category, you are essentially applying a discount to everything in that category.

I have tried using this method and I can't seem to get it to work. Can someone please show exactly how and where you make the changes to use this discounting technique.. Thanks
Jim
