can I hide or disable products from the website?
sabres00
Yes, it's very easy. When you go to edit your products, there is a hide checkbox. Select that, and your product will vanish... until you unhide it that is. smile.gif

Once you have hundreds of products with afew hidden is there a easy way to view only the hidden products? I fear hiding products and then forgetting they are hidden and never unhiding them. huh.gif

Hi,

Following up on Ultimate's question about the retrieval of Hidden Items. I too am wondering if it is possible to, say, generate a list of these.

We do not have that many hidden at this time, but there will be many more and, frankly, I am lazy enough to not want to keep a seperate running list.

Any ideas anyone on a way to view these items?

thanks

This is a good candidate to get into the New Feature Requests before Jan. 1.

When you search for products, there could be an item in the dropdown list to search by hidden items. Then if you left the text field blank, it would pull up all hidden items.

I agree 100% it would be nice to have that Feature and I would definitley post it in the pinned Feature Request /Reveiw for Jan 1st

Can anyone think of a reason why the upgrade that will allow us to view hidden items WON'T have hindsight?

I am guessing that once integrated, this hidden-list upgrade will allow us to look backwards as well.

Just want to make sure, though.

Updates like this have nothing to do with the date that you last modified your files. My guess is that MC will either make this work or not.

My 2 cents ..

Anymore on this topic?

I think its a great idea myself ... very essential tool for us!!

Hi All -
The ability to search your inventory for products marked as Hidden is on the list of items under consideration for v4.1. I agree that this is a rather straightforward enhancement that would help store owners immensely, so you all have my support! smile.gif

Thanks Megan......

I agree very important and not a difficult feature.

It's on the list that clients will begin discussing Monday. stuart.gif

Captain, from what I can tell, the ability to find hidden products easily has been on clients' wish list since May of 2003, perhaps longer. Are we close to a time when we can click a button to display all hidden products? This is one of those nuts and bolts type of features that could save hours and hours of time.

Just Trying to bring this to attention again. Only for the fact that Im having a hell of a time trying to Un-Hide products ....and I cant find them. Some help would be appreciated.

This feature would be a godsend. Seriously.

One thing I figured out recently on hidden products and how to find them again...

If you have dataport, you can download all of your store into an csv file. Then in excel you can sort the list on the hide field. All of your hidden products will be at the top.

Then you can go to your admin panel, find the product and either unhide or delete as necessary. I did this recently and found many products that needed to be deleted. We hid them when they went out of stock until we could determine if we could get more. Since hiding these, we found they discontinued and could delete them.

One other thing to keep in mind, if you delete the product you should go to the file manager and delete the corresponding thumbnail and image for that product. Did I do this? No, but I did think about it for a second and decided I would do it later. Hmm...

Well, I also would love to be able to search for hidden products in the admin panel. And, if I delete a product, wouldn't it be nice if the associated product images were deleted automatically too?

Not for me. I have some images that are used for more than one product.

It really would be nice to be able to search for hidden products.

I'd also like to do a category search, much like we can search by manufacturer.

I'm with bookmark on this one.

Yeh thats how i have been doing it. W/ dataport.... but its still kind of a pain. I accidentally clicked hide on one product and didnt realize I had done it. Now I had to go through all the steps to get that unhidden. Which isnt the biggest deal in the world ...i Just like doing things in the least amount of steps possible.

Having a feature that allows you to just search for hidden products then check or uncheck them would be great in my eyes. Just kinda putting it out there. biggrin.gif

Make a "Hidden Category" also.
Then when hiding product also put that item in it while checking the hide button in product editor.

If you run Dataport you can import that one.
Of you can turn it on for a short time to view etc.

Not the perfect solution but makes it workable.

Dave:

That is such a perfect solution!

I've been forgetting hidden items - and then wonder why they don't sell.

I'll put that on my to-do list (No. 1278).

Glad to help.

We are always adding and removing from the hidden for many reasons and that has solved a big problem.

Again not the "prefect way" but it works!

As for deleting images, Yes thats a another issue.
We have "wished" for a way to find and delete images that are no longer used!
But havent found a easy way on that one yet.

Hiding one product should not hide the image for another product if that is what you were wondering?

No. I've just been a bit lazy on deleting images and would eventually like to go and clean them up. I don't like to delete them right away in case I need them again...and then I just don't seem to have the time to go back...

Now when we hide items we also suffix the Part Number with an "h". Since our Part Numbers rarely contain letters, we just type in "h" search under "part number" and poof, there they are.

Just sorry I didn't think of this sooo many hidden items ago !

There are so many great ideas on these forums.

Thanks, leathus.

Just another idea-

We set inventory of hidden items to 0. That way they show up on the out of stock item list...

Less work than a hidden category, if you already use the inventory feature. =)
