Question for y'all on preferences - which do you prefer, Fireworks or Adobe Photoshop? I seem to be an Adobe dummy, so I'm wondering if Fireworks might be easier.

Opinions appreciated.

I have both and the learning curve might be just a little longer on photoshop but it's what I use.

There are books out there for both that are much better at teaching than the manuals that come with either product so get one of those no matter which way you go and that will speed the learning curve up substantially.

Another thing you might consider is that if you are planning to use Dreamweaver as a design tool you might stay with fireworks for the integration.

ya - no question about it Photoshop is professional grade and much much better then Fireworks.

That being said, most people can do what they need to do with fireworks, and it the interface is a little easier to work with.

As Pzaring said - it is meant to integrate with dreamweaver and can be very handy when you use them both together.

If given a choice and all things being equal - Photoshop is the way to go. Its just a much more stable and powerful program. It also has way more features, but a lot of people never even touch them.

I use Fireworks....mostly because I don't have the time to fully learn PS.
