Do I need to have a separate category for each size of clothing articles in order to keep track of inventory by size/quantity?

Hello HeliPilot!
You do not need to do that, however, they need to be seperate products. Variants would work, but you cannot track their inventory currently. In our next version, though, you will be able to track inventory using variants. That will mean you can have only one product, and each variant will have it's own price, inventory, and weight if you like.

Thank you, Andy. So, if I have one category of tee shirts consisting of med, lg and XL products, when someone elects medium, that's the product whose quantity will be reduced.

Hello HeliPilot!
This would work in the same manner. You would have to have seperate products for each type (be it color, or logo, etc...). Here is how I would designate the structure of your site.
Category - T-Shirts
Under this
Subcategory - Blue
Subcategory - Red
etc...
Under each subcategory
Product - Small
Product - Medium
Product - Large
etc...
Hope this helps!

Yes, that works well. Thanks, Andy.

Is there a planned release date for this feature? Or, if it's a better question, is there a planned release date for the next version?
(I've seen the list of features that are being considered, and I know there's a significant development timeframe. But are talking June? Or 2005? I'm clueless here, and just curious about when the next one's coming out.)

Der.
I just found the advanced variants feature, and that's where variant qty. and weight are found, in case people are looking for it. Of course, if the variant weights and quantities showed up in the Inventory Manager (or the Variant Matrix Editor), that would be sweet.
