All my life, I've wished I was Canadian.

I dunno, some kids dream of being astronauts, or school teachers,
me I've always been hooked on being North of the border.

Call it a love of the land, the people, or the beer, but I just like it cold.

Maybe you guys can give me some info?

I'm in the U.S. and I want to open up my store to Canadian customers, I need to find out about customs regulations and fees. How are packages handled at the border and by the local Post Office? Are you notified to pick up the package and pay the fees? Any help is appreciated.

I don't get into any of that. I have this blurb in various places on the site:

NOTE: Shipping fees do not include any international duties, customs or import fees or taxes. Please contact the customs office in the destination country for information about additional fees.

Don't take that on yourself.

At the border, it is transferred to whatever that country's postal service is and the USPS pays them something. Not sure if it's based on weight or number of packages or what, but it's really nothing we, as merchants, need to worry about.

CANADA REPORTS HUGE JUMP IN IMMIGRATION

Over 55,000,000 Requests for Citizenship Since Tuesday Night

Canadian immigration officials have reported a huge increase in the number of requests for Canadian citizenship in the past twenty-four hours, with over fifty-five million such inquiries pouring in since late Tuesday night.

Of those fifty-five million requests, well over 99.99% of them came from U.S. citizens, the lion’s share residing in such states as New York, California, Massachusetts, Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew said that he was “flabbergasted” by the fifty-five-million-plus requests for Canadian citizenship, adding that it was difficult to pinpoint the precise reasons for the staggering increase.

“My only theory is that after many years of exposure in the U.S., hockey is finally starting to catch on,” Mr. Pettigrew said.

He cautioned, however, that it is impossible to know exactly what is sparking the sudden interest in America’s frozen neighbor to the north: “People answering our immigration hotline say that it is hard to understand many of the American callers because they are sobbing uncontrollably.”

I've seen both of those--but don't mind seeing them again! Thanks!

Be careful what you wish for...
According to un-named sources on the net, the US will be sending 2 gajillion-quintillion armored troops to invade Windsor from Detroit. The only anticipated delay is getting through customs on the Ambassador bridge. There is an unverifiable-unsubstantiated-highly-credible claim that "Molson Beer" is an anagram for "Ya hey, theres terror**ts in that pub over d-er" when transcribed into ancient Sumarian. These claims are highly-accurately-unverifiable-unsubstantiatedly-sorta-truthfully-ambiguous.

PS Actually, we love Toronto (and Windsor too), and travel there a bunch of times every year. We love Canada...

I don't think it's criticism, more like poking fun at.

And after 9/11, it really has become acceptable to equate Islam with terrorism...at least in my part of the country. Now that I don't particularly find funny. A good SNL skit on the other hand on the subject... bigsmile.gif
