Full Version: Corrugated Boxes Needed,

Hi All,
I can't seem to find the thread(s) that talk(ed) about ordering shipping supplies.
We have the free assorted 2 Day Priority USPS & the 2 sizes UPS boxes already. I do not want to turn them unside out (too unprofessional). So we need to buy boxes that are approx. 12" x 9" x 5" for Parcel Post & UPS.
Does anyone have any leads on these at a reasonable cost?
Thank you,
Ben N

I like to pick up my shipping supplies myself so I don't pay for shipping for my shipping products (rather redundant don't you think? Not to mention boxes in bulk are really heavy). Try your local yellow pages. I'd imagine there are a few box companies in NY.

Thank you.
Here's another question.
When purchasing shipping supplies within your own State, are you supposed to pay sales tax, or can you use a resale cert.???
Thx,
Ben N

Nevermind, I just got the answer from our accountant.
Yes, we need to pay sales tax on these items. mad.gif
Oh well, it was worth a shot... whistling.gif
Now I need to figure out, which is less: the 8.75% sales tax, or shipping charges... HA HA HA, LOL... whistling.gif laugh.gif

The 8.75% sales tax is cheaper for 100 boxes ($62.00), than the $19.00 shipping cost.
Gee, I just saved us $13.57, pour me another beer please... HA HA HA, LOL...

Ben,
I do not know your tax laws but in California we are responsible for tracking and paying sales tax on items we purchase out of state that would be subject to tax if bought in California. I know from experience having gone through an ugly California sales tax audit several years ago.

www.papermart.com is another good company with shipping supplies. Even with shipping we couldn't beat their prices anywhere else.
If anyone else knows of a company online thats cheaper, please let me know.

We used some USPS boxes inside out and shipped to a postal employee (oops!). He politely pointed out that the practice is illegal (in addition to the unprofessional you mention). That's when we found PaperMart. Another consdieration...You can buy a hand coder and put your company name on each box for a real professional look.

Hi Tom,
Sounds like a great idea. I was actually thinking of having the boxes either printed up with our name on them, or having big stickers made up, so we can put them on the boxes ourselves.
What is a hand coder & do you know who makes/sells them?
Thx,
Ben N

I am lucky because my sister works for a packing supplies company. They buy a lot of boxes at auctions. Most of them are printed with something on the outside but they are new and they are cheap. Maybe you can find a local packing supplies place that does the same thing or maybe find out about auctions you can attend. A lot of places that are going out of business will have auctions.
