Full Version: Wrong Shipping Charge with UPS 2nd Day Air
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?
robert
I just made a sale in which the customer opted for UPS 2nd Day Air. The cart billed her $19.61, but the actual cost was $60. The weights assigned to the products were accurate.

Any ideas what went wrong? I have disabled that shipping option, but wonder if anyone else has had similar problems. In the meantime, we will just go with UPS ground and USPS Priority and Parcel options.

We don't sell pacemakers, so most people should be able to wait.

I just had a similar issue with UPS 2nd Day Air. My difference was only about $15, I called UPS and they gave me a run around, explaining that it was because I didn't have daily pick-up. They also consider a smaller box size than what is used for group as 'oversize' so I was caught by surprise on that as well.

At the moment I'm not thrilled with UPS rates, but I haven't had the time to search around. I'm meeting with Airborne Express this week, but don't know if I'll be able to do anything with them until MonsterCommerce adds them as a shipping option.

We have daily pickup, but still the prices that the monstersmile.gif store charges for UPS are some of the time different from the actual charge price. Thank god most of the time its accurate, close, or we charged too much, but since we don't do automatic charging through the store we can manually catch it and recalculate, but it would save our time to have the rates charged correctly for UPS.
But, I am not complaining too much, like I said its 95% correct or close, everyonce in a while it throws out a weird number.
So, its not just for those who deliver to the UPS counter, it is the daily pickup also.
I am curious if UPS notifies monstersmile.gif if their rates change? I know it does happen, I am not sure how often, but it has happened in the last year.

With UPS we are getting estimates not only diverge from what the "shipping calculation" estimate is giving, but also differs depending on whether you go directly to the web site and type in the weight and dimensions versus go to the local UPS store. Our local UPS store always wants to charge more than the UPS website says they should, even though their scale gives the same weight as our scale.

We are thinking about shifting to USPS priority mail. Weak tracking, yes, but no price surprises.

Hello!

It is tough for the MC cart to handle alternate issues such as oversized package, or their website being misleading on price. We will be looking at adding a "daily pickup" or "go to counter" setting in the admin panel which may offset some of these pricing issues (which is dependent if there is a table online that calculates rates that are for going to the counter instead of just daily pickup). We will investigate, and if it turns out that we can do it, we'll implement as soon as we can. cool.gif

The UPS Store...Isn't

I just finally got an honest answer to why the UPS Store charges more than UPS. It turns out that when UPS "bought" Mail Boxes Etc. (later renamed "The UPS Store") the stores continued to be franchises. Your local UPS Store is still owned by a franchisee who is going to mark up UPS costs.

I find the UPS television ads to be misleading and our own local UPS Store was not forthcoming with these details. It took a talkative salesperson to get to the truth.

Wow! I didn't know that. Thanks for the update Robert!

I assumed that was the case. I didn't think UPS would put in that much money to run all those stores.
But, it was a bold move by them to take some business from FedEx and USPS.
Unfortunately I think it will cause UPS to raise their rates though.
Cross your fingers and hope not.
