Full Version: 404 - Page Not Found.... Not used?
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?

I noticed that our monstersmile.gif sites have a 404.asp for a custom "error 404 page not found" page. It's pretty nice, keeps the format of your site and gives the error message inside of it. This is great for pages that we might delete, move or are otherwise unavailable. But why isn't it used?

When I try to goto a non-existant location on my site (such as http://www.ultimatekeychains.com/nowhere.htm) I get a standard internet explorer "404 page not found" display which is different then when I manually pull up the 404.asp. Does this just need to be configured on my site or is it globally off? Hope someone can help me with this one whistling.gif Thanks in advance.

This is what I did:

I created my own 404.html, ftp it up to the root and then e-mail MC's tech support and ask them to redirect 404 errors to the page.

Try this link: http://www.beesmartinc.com/xyz.asp

Or you can just ask MC to redirect 404 errors to the existing 404.asp, it's a quick change on their IIS server.

I just figured by default it would be set to goto the 404.asp that they created and placed into the root already biggrin.gif Guess I'll email them to get that changed. Thanks Beesmart

Ultimate-

This is a good point, and has been noted. We are going to write a script to deploy on our servers which will essentially change the default file in IIS to be each site's 404.asp page that is provided. Doing this will not change people's custom 404 pages that they currently are using, only the ones that are using the default Windows provided message.

Look for this change soon... I would say in the next 72 hours. cool.gif

Awesome!

Thanks Andy for the forum response and also the quick action to resolve this issue on a global basis. I look forward to noticing 404.asp usage after the weekend. You guys are the best biggrin.gif

Seems to work automatically now. Very cool feature. But does anyone know if it always go to the homepage? Or can that be changed?
