I would like to offer a sale or discount that allows a customer to receive $10 off any purchase of $40 or more. I need it to exclude shipping and taxes. Does anyone know how to do this.

No idea, but it is a great strategy to get people to keep adding things to their cart. We have used a similar strategy in our store -- buy $1000 in product and we'll give you $200 off. It works. People will buy things just to get up to the threshold.

If can't handle this, it should be added as a new feature!

I've mentioned this in a previous post also... I used it alot with my former store before moving to . It does help to pull sales up! I have no idea how to run something like that with . I can't wait to use it again. 4.0 Please?

Go into your stores admin panel:
INVENTORY >> Price Discount Editor and you can set this up just as you all have requested.

I checked the new feature out. Awesome! But, I need to apply a discount code to it. i.e. I've sent out postcards (cool direct mail postcard site at www.postcardmania.com) that offer the above stated discount to all my previous customers, only they have to enter the discount code. Can we add the code component?
