I am selling personalized ribbons. I need to let my customers select the quantity of ribbons they want. I have 3 options they can choose from: 50 ribbons ($22), 75 ribbons ($26), or 100 ribbons ($30). How can I do this if all quantities have a different price? Do I need to create each quantity as a separate product.

Also, I tried to make a Quantity variant and add a surcharge with a base price of $22.00 but that didn't work. For example, when the quantity of 75 ribbons was selected the price changed to $0.00.

Please help me!! wacko.gif blink.gif crying.gif

I hope I haven't made this too confusing. Thanks!

I believe this will work for you. If not let us know.

If you perform an advanced edit on your product you should see a tab at the top of the page titled "Quantity discounts" This allows you to program in whatever discounts you want for certian quantities.

Hope this helps

David is correct.

In your product editor there is a tab called "Quantity discounts"

This will allow you the configuration you need to get your prices set right based on the quantity your customers order.

Another way to do it would be to have each quantity as a seperate item and within the quantity offer the color varient.

On our site we really only have about 13 products but didn't like the way the quantity discount editor read. It appeared to give such huge discounts people would have thought we were ripping them off for smaller quantities.

I believe I have a similar issue.
I have a brushes category that have 4 sizes and each is priced as each or by the dozen. Qty discounts dont seem to be working for me because I want to sell either each or dozen.
What Ive done is set the items to $0.00 and used variants for sizes at each and sizes for dozen.

So say i have 1/4" brush @ 1.10 ea or 12.50 dz, a customer can ad 1 dz + 1 each and the total would be 13.60. Problem solved right? Well 1. I don't like displaying the product at $0.00 and 2. Im afraid it will seem confusing.

Here is a link to that page http://69.20.48.190/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=12 to see what I mean.

Can someone see if they find this confusing? Since I wrote it using my logic it makes sense, but I need an objective opinion. Is there an easier way to go about doing this that I'm not utilizing? blink.gif

EdSter,

Ok here is the simplest way around what you are trying to do:

Make a separate product for each of your brush sizes and then create your variants.

Because even leaving the default at $0.00 if they select (and they will) 1/4" single and the go down and select 1/4" 1-dozen it will add the single and dozen price together as one price. Giving the a total of 13 items @ $ 13.60.

You have to figure most customers will not figure out they need to change the top pull down list to the default setting.

Make it as simple as possible.

Save yourself and customers the heart ache.

joyfulevents - I didn't mean to take from your post.
I think in your case variants will work. I did a mock up real quick and it seems to work. Check it out:

You didnt post a link to you site so it's hard to tell how you set it up.

Thanks Charles.
My main concern was that it would be confusing to choose a size (and get charged) then choose a discount quantity (and get charged again!). Instead of choosing one or the other.

You are right. Keeping it simple is the key. I was trying to obide by the 3 clicks or less rule. I really, really did not want to make what could be one product (Easel Brushes) into 8 (4 sizes in each price + 4 sizes in dozen price). What do you think of 2 products:
-Easel Brushes
-Easel Brushes by the dozen
?
Im thinking what would be cool is like the car sites that lets you choose MAKE
then MODEL

So I can make it
CHOOSE SIZE
then according to the size
CHOOSE QTY (each or dozen)

I think this would work great and its a great idea. Also remember that you have the related product feature that will allow you to add the cross-product information at the bottom.

This way the customer will be aware that you also sell by the dozen or individually depend what page they land on. because they don't always come in your front door! smile.gif
