will the search function work with external statci pages?

I don't think so, there is a setting in the admin panel to setup exactly what it searches...

Commerce's Design department can set that up for you with custom html programming. They're really fast.

The search that comes with MonsterCommerce searched only products.

You can have keywords with your produts and you can also have the search look through your long descriptions if you want. In Site Wide Settings.
