Full Version: Secure Product Images

Howdy,

We will be selling books and would like to be as informative as Amazon with Table of Contents and sample internal pages.

At present, our major supplier, Tuttle Publishing, allows us to use an image of the cover of their books, but if we want to use images of internal pages such as table of contents we must have those images on a secure site that does not allow the images to be copied, transferred or reproduced.

I know that our payments are secure because they are done on a different server, but can our images be made secure, too?

Here is the publisher's needs:
QUOTE
At this time we allow all customers to use cover images. Interior pages can be used on secure sties that cannot  be transferred, copied or reproduced in any other way from your website. It is customary for Tuttle to ask that customers provide the necessary documentation proving the security features of there website.  I can have our systems administrator provide
you with additional materials for your website once the security issue is settled.

Robert,

I am sure there is a way that MC staff can do this, with a little bit of thinking and I hope I am not speaking out of turn.

Reason I say this is because I was at a site where you could not 'right click' to save an image, etc. What I got was a 'pop up' that told me that the image was copyrighted and were not allowed to download, etc.

May be a simple (maybe not) program to do and unfortunately I do not have an answer for you, just pretty sure there is a way to achieve the end result that you are looking for to keep your publisher happy.

Good luck with it!

I agree that you can easily place a code on your site to disable right clicking and saving graphics. This does not however keep you from being able to "print screen res"... and then cropping the images in a photo editing program.

There is no way to completely safe guard images... anything that is visible to the public on the web can be copied...

My book supplier realizes that the print screen option can't be stopped. Even so, what do I need to do to prevent other forms of copying/saving? I would like to be able to put those internal documents up to sell more books!

Its even easier than "print screen". You just click and hold and drag onto your desktop or into a folder. Its almost impossible to stop people from copying images if they want to. But, there is some heavy duty code on the net that will keep most visitors from copying.
Please don't ask where to find the code though, I have no idea, but I know its out there available. Even simple code that you can find through any search engine search will keep most visitors from doing the old "right click to save" routine.
