What does it mean when the user gets the following message...

"Customer has tried to pay for their order using a real-time gateway,
but encountered an error in processing their card.
Response Code 1 = 2"

Bad card? gateway down?

I'm noticing a lot of "not finalized" orders with people trying to order more than once in a row. Is this normal?

Do any of you email those customers to try to clsoe the sale? How do you know if the card will work when you go to enter the order after the call or email?

Thanks again,
Scott

That's been happening to me ALOT!
1=2 means that the address or some other information that they entered does not match the info that is on their credit card. You might have to change your gateway's security settings. I have mine set so the customer MUST enter the correct street address AND the correct zip code EXACTLY as it appears on their CC bill, or the transaction gets declined.
I had one customer try and enter their order 5 or 6 times, before they got fed up! I ended up losing that one...
As a matter of fact just 10 minutes ago, I got done e-mailing another customer that had to enter their order 3 times before it went through. I explained that I received 2 not finalized orders, so I cancelled them, causing her to get 2 e-mails sayin 2 orders were cancelled. Then the customer just e-mailed me saying "I only remember entering 1 order". I e-mailed her back saying that I cancelled the orders that were not finalized, etc.. I told here that we have a secure site that makes the person entering the CC info, to enter it EXACTLY the way it appears on their CC bill.
All I should have done was DELETE the 2 not finalized orders, and I'd have avoided having to explain it to the customer...

Or you can change your admin settings to not send an email when an order is cancelled. I find the less I have to explain, the better. For any legitimate cancel, the customer has requested it, so I don't need to send another email cancelling it.

Great idea Debi.
I'm going to change that tonight!

Is there a chart somewhere with the error codes? I'm seeing a new one today 1=555

Many thanks,
Scott

I believe this is not due to anyone.

Skipper any note on this fix? I believe this should be a priority fix going out today.

I had one of those (1=555) last week. It means that the connection was lost.
A list should be available from your cc processor.
