Full Version: Password Protect Monster Webstore
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?
David
Hi all,
I am new to this whole web store setup so please excuse any stupid questions. I have 2 things I'd like to ask here.

1. Is it possible to password protect my webstore so only registered users may enter? If so how? If monstersmile.gif does not supply this option could I perform the log in operation on my own page and then link the authorized users to my monstersmile.gif web store

2. Is there anyway to protect your backend webstore pages from being detected from search engines such as Google.

Thanks in advance
David

Hi! In regards to #2, if you are referencing the administration panel of your store, this area will not be picked up on search engines; it is already protected.

If not, please clarify and we'll get your question answered!
David
Thanks for your help. I found the setting with no problem.

Did come up with another question though. Right now we have it set up so that a user can log in but they don't have to. If I change the setting to force users to sign in will the current registered users have to register again or will they be able to use their existing username and password.

Also do I need to do anything to remove the optional log in page. This may sound confusing so if you need to take a look our page is www.atsgwireless.com. The log in tab is over on the right. I think this page exists because I have "Allow users to pre-register" selected in the site-wide settings. So do I uncheck this when I set users to be forced to log in.

If the users will be able to use their existing log in information is there anyway I can send an email to these users communicating the change? I know I can go into the Customer administration section and see all the user information but is there anyway to pull that information into a mailing list or into some sort of delimited file?

Thanks
David

They will be able to use their old information because it will be in your store database, unless you go into your admin panel and delete it yourself.

Site Information>>>Site wide settings>>>Site Layout>>
Hide Horizontal Navigation Login Link

Make this yes and it will remove it.

This information should be located at:
Customers Newsletter administration and you can choose who to send the newsletter too.

TO see people Registered to go customer administration and hit search to bring up everyone.

First I want to thank everyone for their helpful answers. Second I have 2 questions.

#1 If we select users to be forced to log in what happens if they save one of our back end pages as a favorite or tries to go directly to a back end page without logging in? Are they redirected to the log in page?

Example:
Main page = www.atsgwireless.com
Back end page =
http://www.atsgwireless.com/index.asp?Page...PROD&ProdID=102

#2 Currently our back end pages are being detected by google (shown here) If we select the "users must log in" feature will these pages not be detected? Is there anyway to allow google to detect them but force the user to the main page to log in?

Thanks
David

If you have it set to having to sign in first, they should be redirected to the home page. The only way to find out is to test it.

Good question. Will Google be redirected to the login page also? wassat.gif
