If your not using your manufacturer field because you don't keep track of the mfg's for your products consider using it for something else!

Under Site Layout >> Column Layout you can include a drop down that brings up products based on the mfg field.

This can be another usefull tool in organizing your products.

I have seen this field used for the 'Author Name' for a site that sells books and it worked out really well!

Yeah, but then it says "--Select MFG--" on the drop-down box and the banner above it says "Manufacturer". How do you change that?

You can change the images by creating your own custom theme. The user manuals give you the basic steps for this.
