So here:
Site Information -> Site Wide Settings -> Site Layout
About 1/3 of the way down there is an option to "Hide Bottom Border" - what does this do? I can't find any mention of it in the manual.

It is my belief that this could be used for customizing the top area or bottom area of your website. All it does on mine right now is put a space between my logo and where the navigation & body start.
You might be better off sending an email to tech support to answer that better.

Thanks CBHALE. I had the same thought...but couldn't find anywhere to configure the space at the bottom - like adding graphics or HTML. So I've turned it off for now.
I'll take your advice and submit a tech support ticket.

Yeah they can tell you for sure. I know the top and bottom borders are where the 'curves' show up when you are doing rounded corners. Turning them off should tighten up your design a bit. I think that is all they are used for.

The top and bottom borders act as a buffer around the center areas of your shopping cart that encompasses the left, right and center portion of your cart. Be aware, that if you turn off both the top and bottom borders that your center area will then stretch the left and right columns without a nice buffer space. Meaning that the padding that was originally there will be eliminated. What we normally do is to remove the top border but leave the bottom border turned on so that there still remains a nice padding around the center content area.
