Full Version: How Do I Find Out About Hosting ;)
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?

Hi. I was wondering if monstersmile.gif hosting includes ASP hosting. Also....for those of you that use it...does it include any stats options? As far as tracking and seeing site traffic? This is a tool we use very frequently in the office. Thanks in advance! noexpression.gif

Ok I found out that monstersmile.gif hosts ASP and that they also have a stats tool to check tracking. Is anyone familar with this tool? How is it? We really need to make sure monstersmile.gif has everything we need before we switch our site to be hosted there too.

Are you refering to URCHIN?
rednil
Not sure...is it a stat program? If so...how do you like it?

You cannot currently upload ASP pages to the site without permission. monstersmile.gif is not really a full fledged hosting program; it's more a store hosting option with a browser based FTP format. We are currently looking to offload our HTML -- we need things like password protected directories/pages and some other things that are not really possible with the way space works on MonsterCommerce.

Urchin Stats is pretty complete, but it depends on what you are using now. The breakdown on page queries is a little difficult to read, and there is really no option to show where people click to and from if they are using dynamic page jumps. Other than that, very pretty and informative. smile.gif

So basically then there is no ASP hosting? Most of our site is in HTML but....we have ASP forms...because that's how i do forms! wink.gif But....yeah that's interesting because I chatted with someone today and they said they could host ASP. Maybe I was being confusing. Guess we'll look elsewhere?

MC does not allow you to freely upload these types of pages on your own due to security reasons, but *maybe* they would allow you to send your pages to them for verification/placement.

Call and speak to Steph about uploading your own ASP pages.

I would check with people and specifically ask. At the moment the upload does not allow scripts (as far as I know) or ASP to be uploaded. Sooo, think about that when you talk with people. And think of the difficulty if those pages get changed often.

Offline hosting seems to be the way to go for us, hopefully some sort of arrangement can be worked out for you!! smile.gif

We currently use alot of asp pages. I have created my own directories within the store for them and until something is worked out with uploading asp files all I do is send them to support to upload for me and it is done. I have about 15 asp pages that are custom within our old and new site.

Hi Rednil -

You can use your own ASP if you have a hosting only site.... meaning, a site that is without a shopping cart. The reason we do this is because it is separate from the shared shopping cart environment, and you are on a server which hosts only sites that are not using carts. So, if for some reason someone uploads a script which consumes all server resources and eventually crashes the machine, our clients can still process orders without any problems because the shopping cart servers are not affected.

Many sites do this currently, with their own information on their main domain (www.yourdomain.com) which goes to the hosting only site, then a link to the store which could be something like shop.yourdomain.com. We set up the subdomain for you free and point it in the correct location.
