Full Version: FTP Access
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?

It would appear to me that the FTP access generally gives only one way transfer ability. Of course you can right click the link of your file and use "save target as..." but I'm talking multiple files or complete directories. This might be a decent feature to add to the FTP access in the future.

My current situation is this - Due to a recent HD crash we lost the local copy of all our product images. We'd like to transfer all our product images back to us from the site but can't seem to find an easy method to do this. unsure.gif

Any suggestions or work-arounds? blink.gif

If you have Full FTP access you will be able to transfer any of the files from monstersmile.gif to you computer.

If you are using the file manager that is in the control panel then your statement above is correct.

If you don't have Full FTP access it is well worth the extra $ 10.00 a month, I use this all the time.

Look Here:

Also I am using WSFTP95 LE, this is a Free program and does the job just fine, you can find it here:

Hope this helps!!

Personally I use FTPVoyager... but anything that gets the job done smile.gif

Hi All

One to thing to bare in mind is if you do make HTML changes to the templates outside of the core system you must inform monstersmile.gif that you want our store "flagged as custom" else your edited pages will get over written through the incremental upgrades and fixes that monstersmile.gif do...I discovered this through experiencing it tongue.gif

I used to use FTP Explorer (for many years) but have switched to FashFXP this past few months, it's a neat piece of software

Cheers

So just to confirm. When upgrading from Basic to Plus you only get the limited "Integrated FTP" and it costs an extra $10 per month for "Standard FTP" access?
cbhale
ultimatekeychains,

The plus is what you need to have full ftp access. The $ 89.95 package. monstersmile.gif tech's can set that up for you if you call them.

Then you use one of the programs suggested above.

ultimatekeychains
That's the package I have. Do they need to do anything special to allow standard FTP access via a thirdparty app?
Captain
You also get stats with Plus... you don't with the basic...

Update:

In order to access your store via a third-party FTP client you must contact Tech Support and agree to a FTPTOS (FTP Terms of Service).

The FTPTOS is pretty scary because it states that "you are responsible for any errors that your site produces, regardless of whether you may or may not believe you are responsible."

monstersmile.gif may wish to consider a partial FTP access whereas you can use any FTP client but only have access to non-critical directories. My purpose is just to DL images back to my machine. Also it may make it easier to reorganized my images, etc. I do not intend on touching any ASP pages, and core code, etc.

Ultimate-

The FTP TOS is not meant to be scary, and by no means are you waving your right to standard tech support. The form is necessary, though, as many people have broken their store by editing or deleting something that they should not, or worse yet, running off with our code for their own purposes. ohmy.gif

We do offer Read-Only FTP on a per request basis for your external FTP client... However, the more "limited" FTP we do offer is integrated into the admin panel. We will evaluate the wording, though, to ensure it's intent is passed along more effectively.
ultimatekeychains
The reason it's "scary" as I put it is because it "appears" to release monstersmile.gif of all liabilities relating to your site. I was contacted by a tech who explained that "if" a person were to delete something or cause a problem the site could be repaired but may take time or cost extra.

I assume you would also be able to recover the site from a backup?

However, the wording is a bit disconcerning for someone such as myself whereas I have no need or desire to view or modify anything except my images via FTP.

I have emailed support to change my request to Read-Only access. I was unaware of this option.

Thanks sabres00!
cbhale
Will a Read Only access allow you to upload images as well??

How about when setting up the FTP account for Ultimate you automatically drop him/her in a pre-determined directory that he/she determines for the pictures.

That should work! cool.gif

ultimatekeychains
That would be my preference and I was surprised this wasn't an option. However, I'll take what I can get. biggrin.gif I'm willing to use the integrated ftp for uploads and a ftp client for downloads of my images.
spriggig
I don't want full FTP access, and I don't want to break my site, but it would be nice to be able to move multiple files between directories and delete multiple files through the current web file manager.
