Full Version: Version 4 - Discount Codes Broken?

So I'm still using version 4.6.0.7 and I've set up a backtoschool discount code. This gives the shopper a 10% discount when they enter the correct code at the checkout. When I tested it however, it gives the 10% discount whether they enter the code or not. What did I do wrong or is this just broken?

Here's how I set it up:
category = all categories
Type = percentatge, 10
Min purchase = not required
max purchas = not required
valid dates = 8\15\2008 - 10\1\2008
Activate Code = Can be entered during checkout is the only option checked here

Why am I getting the 10% automatically when it should require you to enter the code to get the discount. I have other discount codes so to have this one come up automatically AND they enter another one is breaking the margin bank here.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I feel your pain. Were you able to figure out the glitch?

This morning we got an order and instead of getting 50% of one category in our store it applied it as a Site Wide Discount.

We can't believe it. The customer should have oly received $9.00 off and instead received $34.95 off.

We reviewed the discount. We did it correctly.

What do you think went wrong?

Plus we have to honor this sale since it's my mistake.

______________update__________ 4:15 PM:

Spoke w/ tech support and did a test order. It's possible that the specific category discounts don't work with g**gle checkout and apply it to everything in the cart. If you use g**gle checkout and category discounts you may want to review your options until we have more news. They're not positive this is the case but it works fine on our regular payment gateway but not with G**gle.

bump...no love for me???

dear monstahs.....if you have time could you please take a look at our issue w/ discount codes and g**gle checkout listed above? We're still on v4.

Does this also happen in Version 7?

If someone has V7 and uses g**gle checkout could you please test the discount codes.

If you add a specific category discount does it apply it to everything in the cart?

1. Buy the item on sale and buy something else.

2. Test it with just the sale item

3. Test it with something else not on sale but use the discount code.

Tech support still has this as an open ticket for us so I don't have anything new to report. I'm still out $25.95. I asked for a credit on my shopping cart monthly fee and the tech support person on the phone was encouraging saying he thought that would be fair.

Thanks!!

In 7x order level discounts are sitewide. Product level discounts can be applied to a specific category, however the price will be changed when added to the cart. There should be no issue with Google Checkout as it will just read straight from the product in the cart.

Can you please explain "the price will be changed when added to the cart"? How can it be changed when added to the cart if they don't enter the code until checkout??

I'm on v4, and while I look forward to some things working better in v7 (such as QuickBooks integration - I hope!), I'm also very scared that I will lose functionality that I depend on, like price levels by exact amount, and discount codes (although the v4 implementation needs improvement - we want more flexibility, not less!)

There are different types of discounts in 7x. Order level discounts can allow the ability to insert a coupon code in checkout whereas product level discounts are discounts taken off at the product level, so the customer see's the discount before adding the product to the cart. I would recommend checking out the demo store and reviewing the discounts under operations >> discounts.

Also, we are looking into upgrading the price level functionality to be a specific product price rather than a discount percentage off. We had to push this back to later next year as we need a way to implement this without hurting the performance of the site however it is on the horizon.

I'm not migrating until next year so I hope it's ready when I migrate. I have had to do so many "workarounds" to get v4 to work for me instead of against me, and I'm pretty sure most, if not all, of those workarounds will break when I migrate. *sigh*
