Full Version: Adding Extra Freight Charge

Is there a way to add extra freight to a product without it automatically adding to the price of the product but rather as an addl charge or added to the freight during checkout.

For example we sell an oversized item which costs us $30.00 in freight to ship. Our normal shipping charge is $8.95. The product is listed at $89.95. If I add a variant called Addl Freigh of $20.00 it adds it to the price and the price now shows up as $105.95 instead of the prefered $89.95 plus an additional shipping charge of $20.00. I would like the $20.00 charge to show up as a separate charge or to add to the normal freight charge.

Any ideas of how I can accomplish this?

Hi,

Is this for all products or just a few specific products? smile.gif

If it is for only select products then make a Variant called additional freight cost like you did.

But this time add in something like this

In the drop under freight cost add:

-----Select--- with a variant charge of zero

Then add

Freight charge $20.00

That way when they choose select they see the regular price and choose the freight they are shown the new price and how it changes with freight added.

Let me know if this works or would like something different

I know they are suppose to be adding upsell in the cart , but not sure when

I have seen other people actually add that as a variant within the product itself.

I am not sure this will apply to you...just an idea!

Thanks Guys!! We are still getting used to this new software. I think we worked it out using your suggestions.

Here is an update on the extra freight charge.

We added a variant call "Add'l freight charge" When we tried to place this product into an order it would state that it was placed into the cart but when Viewing Cart it did not show up. Tech support was able to figure out that it was choking on the Apostrophe!! We removed it and it worked fine. So the point is, be sure not to use apostrophes in your variants or your customers can't purchase the product.

I found out the hard way about those evil apostrophes! huh.gif

I had two manufacturer's that had apostrophes in their names and none of their products came over during the migration. One was not a big deal since they only have 17 products. The other, however, had a couple of hundred. Thank God for the dataport!! w00t.gif
