uninstalled the user string thing to use wsiwyg, tried re-installing IE7 but it keeps emulating version 6.0. I almost uninstalled IE alltogether thinking I'd reinstall it again but I get a warning that ll kinds of programs depend on it and it could mess things up.

Anyone know how to get back to IE7?

martini, do i want to reinstall windows xp? That sounds scary, beyond my geek-knowledge. I tried removing IE 7, then reinstalling it, didn't work.

Also you can turn back your machine to the last known good working condition. It's called system restore under Accessories > System Tools. I have used this from time to time.
