Interesting article...which makes one think how long this trend will last? With companies like Ebay, Bizrate, Amazon, etc spending millions with the search engines, how long will it be before the engines give them ranking preferences? Just think, they spend millions a month, we spend thousands. Just for fun, search for an item that is listed on your site. With my products, I am now seeing the above companies listed not just on the first page, but from page one to ten!

Don't get me wrong I have a couple of sites I still get very good traffic, but this is due to the age of the sites (over five years old) This week, my MC site (17 months old) dropped to an all time low of just 184 visitors per day. This means I have blogs (my lowest traffic sites) that are getting 10 times this amount of traffic, and in most cases my blogs rank higher than my ecommerce site.

So, back to the old saying content is king...if you make daily updates to your site, will it start out ranking your blog? In the messed up world of search engines, why should a blog out rank an e commerce store?

Maybe I am missing an important part of some SEO component with my MC site, but what has worked in the past with my other sites is not working with this one!

For me, I see it harder and harder to compete with the big boys.

You're right, Amaz*n and Eb*y pages rank high for individual products.

I thought this was a great idea. MC needs to be thinking creatively, and looking at unique features to add:

"Yahoo merchants can now automatically offer a shirt to match a pair of slacks a customer bought previously, or a tablecloth to complement silverware a customer placed into the shopping cart. (In retail parlance, these techniques are called cross-selling or up-selling.)"
