Full Version: Billing Address Is Same As Shipping Address

Yesterday I was filling out an order for someone who called and I entered a different billing and shipping address - my 2 step checkout automatically defaults to billing same as shipping - yes. I forgot to switch it to No, and it processed the order as billing same as shipping. So it used the shipping address as the billing address and because the zip was the same as the billing address it went through.

I don't see what the advantage is either way, default to yes, or default to no for this feature??? Our cart doesn't automatically fill in billing if you choose that it's the same as shipping, which would be nice, most major shopping carts do that as far as I know. I think now I need to keep it on No, because if someone makes a mistake like me they'll get rejected during checkout if the cart thinks the shipping address is the billing address?

what do ya'll think?

I think the default should be NO with a check box for YES, which then fills out the info if it's the same. Can't remember right off how ours is, tho'. I think it's NO.

I keep mine set to yes! Just some FYI, you will lose charge-backs if you ship an order to a different address other than the bill to address. I just lost a case due to this mistake (which wont happen again). Had all the info correct, first and last name, cvc code, correct address, state, phone number, email and zip. Still lost the case.

I guess if your shipping to other address, use your judgment. PM Macrick, he has some good ways to prevent fraudulent orders.

Wacky, was this fraud or a lost package? Any details?

I check all my orders one way or the other before shipping. If customer is shipping to a different address I check both addresses in 411.com, zaba, and other services. I always do a reverse phone check too. And if there's still doubt I verify info with Much of the time the last name is the same or some other connection. My biz is one where people buy gifts and send them. There's no way I'm only taking billing same as shipping orders.

It would be nice if our cart automatically filled in shipping if it was the same as billing, but it doesn't. Think i'll start a poll thread

Hey Guys,

We have shipped packages to other addresses than the billing address, ended up in a dispute, and won the dispute. We have also shipped orders to the billing address and lost the dispute. Its not black and white.

It has been my experience that most Fraud orders have every bit of information correct. Crooks are sharp!

Total fraud. The case even went to abritration due to the amount of correct information I had. VISA stated, since I didnt send it to the billing address, I had no case. Arrest warrents have been issued for both parties involved.

Wacky,

Which authorities were you able to get Arrest warrants issued with? How did you do this? Please let us know how this evolves, maybe do it PM wise since this thread is not a private thread and the world can read it. We do not want to tip people off on Fraud stuff.
