Interesting article

There is a lot of information on the net about this not counting the big database crash they had last year. I predict that G will buy DMOZ and hire real editors to manage the site if they continue to use it as a method of placing a value on websites. It is really hard to get listed when your competitor is the admin of the category you are trying to get in. If it is not a competitor, then why is it so hard to get listed? I have one site that I have been trying to get listed for 4 years. I submit it once a year, but I never hear anything...not even an email telling me to kiss their A**.

I read a post where the guy says he got his listed the same day by contacting the editor and telling him about the site, a little butt-kissing and the editor even sent an email asking if the listing looked okay. I would guess there's more to it than that, but did you ever try that? I would think any eCommerce sites are tough because there are already so many listed there. If Google were smart they'd buy it or start their own and start charging $199 or something less than Y! There must be a reason they are keeping out of the directory biz, maybe there's an agreement with Y! of some kind.

I have been trying to get listed for a while too. I didnt even know Goofle didn't won it. Because they have a link to it somwhere on their site. I found them when I submitted to Google and somehow during the process I ended up there so I thought they owned it. Thats a good question....why endorse it or count it if they can just buy it and make a profit from it? There must be a reason they aren't in the business. Maybe they feel ppl will spend less on PPC?!?!? I know if I was spending 200 here 300 there and whatever else for links Id spend less on PPC. but either way you got me thinking

How do you find out if they turned you down or just haven't dealt with your site yet?
BamaCat
I could swear that I read, when I applied, that they would notify you either way. But I went back to look for that again and didn't see it anywhere. I really though there was an faq that was "how do I know if I got accepted?" or something like that. So either it's somewhere during the application process and not in the general faqs, or I'm mistaken.

I re-found the page I was talking about. This is what makes me thing they have some kind of connection with DMOZ. This is their directory page but on the bottom where you click to submit a site it take you to DMOZ's page. http://www.google.com/dirhp?lr=&cat=gw...m=100&hl=en

What do you guys think about it. Do you think they already own it or are they just working with them?
BamaCat
They probably own it, just haven't gotten around to the overhaul. Goofble has a lot on their plate right now from what I'm reading.

That link has been there for a while...think I found it around three years ago. I have read a few articles that SEO's would like to see G purchase DM0z but haven read anything of that actually happening. With G being a publicly trade company, if a transaction like this did take place, it shouldn't be hard to find.

Unless the pruchaced it before they went public...BUT you are prob right with this. If they owned it some SEO expert would have dug it up by now because info about public companies are not in shortage. Especially post Enron, Tyco and friend. I wonder what their deal is with them though

I noticed that link as well on Google a while back. From what I gather it is from back when Google first started and used DMOZ heavily to gather information on what websites were out there. So it probably is just natural for them now to support those who supported them in the beginning.

Has anyone been able to get into DMOZ? I have been tring for years with no luck and have finally just given up with even trying to submit my website any more.
