I am finally sick of all of the spam that is hitting our contact forms. It appears to be some kind of robot. I even changed the url on the forms in the hopes of loosing the spam but that did nothing. So any suggestions besides taking the forms down?

I have tested
http://www.formmail.com/ on my

Site before - it runs very well. I will be changing to this on my contact page in a week or so. It runs very well.
An example of it which I put on another site is:
http://appconsult.net/contact.html I can have it sent up to four different emails. I have used them on various sites for over two years. Very reliable.

Looks like CJS already uses formmail. CJS, It may be because your form is really short. Try making it a little more complex. It might help throw the bots off. Add a dropdown with different options for "contact subjects". Maybe some other required fields. Make the name required as well. That might help curb your spam intake.

Add the "captcha" option that formmail offers...it cut my spam to zero.
...just checked bluesky geoff's link--captcha is turned on. It works!
There are some other, more flexible (and more aesthetic) captcha scripts out there on the web too.

Exactly, add captcha. martiniguy recommended formmail.com to me and I haven't received any spam, and it's cheap. Unless you're getting hundreds and hundreds of emails I guess.

CJS, I've noticed a new rash of formmail spambots on my site, too. They seem to come in waves, but it's definitely annoying!

Can anyone here explain how to use the captcha feature with

sites? Is it an add-on that one would need to purchase/install?

Actually my short form that you see on my main site does not get spammed. The spam I am seeing is with another

store that I run which is more complex. It does have drop downs and such. So wierd that they picked this particular site to spam while my other site gets no spam. So I will look ingo the captcha thing with formmail. Thanks.
Just set formmail up with captcha...very easy to implement....and hopefully goodbye to spam!

Woodsprite,
Captcha is html code, basically, and it's unrelated to MC (unless they are providing this feature in their new software, which would be nice). I'm not sure if it's something you can code yourself or if you need to go through a company like I did. When someone submits the form, it gets routed to formmail.com and then comes to me. They keep track of the number of emails you get via the form submit, so if you pass the 100/month level you have to upgrade and pay them more $.
You can check out my Contact Us page if you want, look at the source code. You need some html knowledge, or need to teach yourself some to use formmail.com, they give you some simple forms to add, but if you want something more fancy you need to copy someone else's or do it yourself. But I taught myself some html, did it myself, and it worked, so if I can do it, anyone can. There are probably plenty of captcha form mail services out there.
