OK, last week I bit the bullet and purchased an EV SSL for one of my sites. I ended up purchasing this through NetSol due to price... $799 for two years. I know that there was another thread on this but only one person had signed up so far.

Has anyone else purchased? Any difference in sales? Loaded this on a MC site yet?

My MC site SSL has two years left on it and NetSol stated they would give me a $50 credit per year for switching. I figured I would wait until my other site was updated before switching the MC site.

I also checked with GeoTrust and GoDaddy. At this time GeoTrust is twice as expensive and GoDaddy and NetSol.

What I can tell you is right now to even see it your customers have to use IE 7 and have the phishing filter on. Most people don't have it on so the bar is never green. Also it only works on IE 7, you still get the security on the others but no green bar and they don't support 256 yet (I think). Also the major draw for us was the 256 ssl deal, problem is unless they are on Vista the NS one hides the part about it being 256 and puts 128. The other ones like GoDaddy leave in the 256, yet it's still 'true' 128. So all and all it's kinda crap, but we did have one customer buy a 2 buck item and email us that they liked our security. So we are well on our way of paying it off.

I think its just a matter of time before a website owner needs this. Yes, I might be a bit early in doing so, but better safe than sorry, yet I think prices will continue to fall. With Vista being sold now, you can figure within two-three years a very high percentage of PC's will be replaced. Rarely will I keep a PC longer than three years, so I would be one of these types of people that is always upgrading.

Hi All,

If you don't meet the criteria for the EV cetificate don't bother applying for it yet. If you're not incorporated you can't get through the validation process without filling out the incorporation information. A tech just told me it will be a couple months until they're able to do it for sole proprietors so I had to call the SSL sales department, get a refund on the $ for the EV and get the basic cert. The sales dept. told me they'll give me a refund for this when I upgrade to the EV when it becomes available. FYI

Hi BamaCat,

If you fill in the information with what ever you have about your business you will be able to get validated. If you are still having issues please email me, or PM me and i will get someone to contact you. I believe that the rep had misinformed you as we were told that you CAN purchase it, just the storefront process and forms for purchasing haven't been changed but validation will go through.
