Hello all! I am new to MC but have been a designer for several years. I am a bit lost as to the REAL editable parts of the cart. I see the manual's directions but it seems that I MUST set a theme first and then basically edit the theme. I have tried a couple themes now and am still having layout issues & color issues. Is there not an option for a totally custom cart? I really wish we had real FTP & could edit the template files by hand but other than figuring out the layout & what I can not do, I am happy with MC. So far...

Is there a thread, how-to, or anything that can tell me what I can edit to make this more customized than the top layout, side bar, and product on the left. One thing I am having issues with is getting the left & right bars background color changed. bash.gif

Maybe I just need to work with it more to get more accustomed to where things are and what standard color change is what.

Thanks for any advice/help I can get.

Hi Jen,

Welcome to MonsterCommerce! When designing your storefront, the biggest things to remember is that our software is sort of like a content management system. We break down the cart/page into 5 sections. You have your top of page, bottom of page, and left and right columns.

Each of these areas are fully customizable to your liking. Then the last section is the center content of the page. This is typically driven by the database and the software to display things a certain way, but almost all pages have some custom area where you can add any html that you want. An example of this is on product pages, in the detailed description you can put in any html that you want. For category pages, you can put any custom html you want on the top of the product listings.

Also with the release of 4.5 and 4.6 we have added in to the core software the Product Details HTML Editor, that will let you setup a custom template for your product pages. This tool will let you set up your product pages so you can display different aspect of the products where you want, such as the image of the product on the left, description on the right, and so on, how ever you would like.

I would take a look at the following two documents, they should be able to help you get started with your design.

That is kinda what I thought. I will keep plugging away at learning what goes where & how it all works. I am learning more of what is where each day.

Thanks so much!
