Do I have to host my blog on a sub-domain of my site to take advantage of increased traffic and search engine optimization of my website?
If I do, then I'm guessing I have to pay my domain registrar for a new sub-domain correct?
If I do all this and set Blogger to point to my new sub-domain, am I still using the Blogger tools to manage my blog on my new sub-domain?
I recommend setting up your blog or forum on a sub-domain of your own domain but it is not required. Blogger allows you to set up a sub- account on Blogspot, e.g.
shopsublime.blogspot.com. As long as the customization and links on your blog point to your site, it should be fine. It can be said that there are some SEO benefits if it is on your own domain, but it's not required.
All good registrars (including Network Solutions) will allow you to set up sub-domains for free. You should not need to register a sub-domain separately. All you have to do from your registrar is set up the CNAME to point the sub-domain to the blog host's server --
ghs.google.com in Blogger's case.
Once you have followed the steps, you will continue to administer your blog as normal through Blogger's tools. The output will be seen at the sub-domain.
