I was just wondering, I can upload multiple images but it seems I cant upload multiple thumbnails. I'm talking about going into files on my computer and selecting the create thumbnail on the image manager.

Am I doing this wrong. How do I go and upload thumbnails just like regular images?

Hello Trooper -

The 'Create Thumbnail' option only works when you upload images one at a time through the 'Browse' and 'Upload' buttons. This feature is not available for the 'Upload Multiple Files' function.

Thanks!

Hi -
We use a free program called Easy Thumbnails from www.fookes.com.
We make all our pictures and then make the thumbnails using this program and upload them all at once thru the image manager. This saves alot of time. Easy Thumbnails is really fast - it can make 100 thumbnails in like a minute or two. Did I mention it is a free program?

Thanks for the info Nancy. I'd love to save time by using on of these programs. But I like to use a different full size image biggrin.gif O'well.

There was kind of a reason I can see for programming MonsterCommerce File Manager this way. The thumbnail creation process uses a sizable chunk of memory and processor on the server that your site is hosted on. If you are only creating one, this is really no problem as it takes only a fraction of a second. Also, uploading files does create a noticeable dip in performance.

However, if you were to upload and create thumbnails from dozens or even hundreds of images (or worse, thousands!) then this would cause a significant dip in server performance.

Put another way, how would you like it if right before you made the biggest sale you've ever made on your web site, someone else on the same server started uploading 5000 images and creating thumbnails of each one as it goes? We have not put this feature in for a good reason.

In the future, we are looking at ways of making this upload/thumbnail process more hyper-threaded so that it does not eat up as much of the processor's time and memory. This may make it upload slower, but it would allow you to do it and not affect the server's overall process.
