Sometimes when I ask a question at the forum I get a little uneasy knowing that some of the fellow forum users are our competition (sorry Paul). I would like to have the ability to on a case by case basis exclude specific users from viewing our posts. I don't want to exclude them every time as we have actually helped each other out quite often. It is just that sometimes it would be easier to post certain questions with a little controlled access.

Funny that you should mention that Steve, because we've heard of others who thought we had too much control over the forums. If there are forum community members who no longer have MC stores, we can remove their permissions to view Verified Store Member material only. Having said that, I wonder whether the community will tolerate it?

If that is what we want to do, then I can certainly look at doing so.

No, I don't really care about the stores that have left. Not usually but once in a while I would like to ask a question of the members while excluding one or two competitors. I guess I will pester support with these questions in the future.

I personally would like all of Steve's posts and MC tickets sent directly to my inbox. Thanks!

LOL.

I see your point, Steve. Rarely will I copy you, and, if I really want to do something with the site, I'll find a way!

You could, of course, buy our site. Then you'd have no local competitors!

Are you saying that Ex-Merchants who no longer have a MC store have access to Verified Store Members areas of the forum? Why? If they left, what business is it of theirs to have access to that info? They very well could be competitors to merchants of MC, don't you think MC should automatically remove there forum status from a Verified Store Member?

Funny as usual Paul. I don't worry about you so much because you are so far ahead of me why would you back up to my level. In case you haven't noticed there are several other JD Dealers with monstersmile.gif sites. I can only assume they are on the forums.

Hey Rick,

Anyone who has more than 100 posts and has gone on to different pastures has what is known as "Posting Member" access. This does allow them to continue to communicate within this community. That was changed some time ago as part of our anti-spam action items within the forums.

Chris,

Thanks for the response.

What is the idea behind allowing them to have posting access? I mean, to me, they could look, post, start a topic all they want in the Public Areas, but shouldn't be doing anything in the Member only areas.

Say deere lives MC for greener pastures, goes with one of your competitors, but rungreen stays with MC . . . Do you think that deere could have an advantage of reading up on rungreens posts in private areas of the cart? Do you think that rungreen would have the same kind of access in deeres new forum at your competitors site?

To me, if it says merchant only, then it should mean merchant only. To me, it seems that this is another example that monstersmile.gif doesn't care about its own clients.

One more time, "Why should a non monstersmile.gif Merchant have access to the "Merchant Only" areas of this forum?

That is a good point. This was my decision and was aimed at minimizing the amount of spam posters and we had a number of people who were no longer MC merchants but had relationships within the community who I knew would raise a holy stink if I removed their posting abilities.

I'd be happy to take a poll to see if the decision was wrong--meaning that the merchants can assist in the direction that we move with the forums. My intent was not malicious nor aimed at providing the community with reasons to believe that MC doesn't care about its clients. I know it's hard to manage perceptions and as it is said, "One man's trash is another's treasure." Maybe not the best analogy to use, but I mean right by it. It's hard to please everyone. happy.gif

I appreciate your comments though, Rick. Very appropriate.

Thanks!

Chris,

While I appreciate all the previous monstersmile.gif merchants contributions to this cart, and there have been many, they had to make a business decision, made it, and left the cart. I can respect that, and have. Their contributions to the cart are helping us merchants who are here now, yes "their trash is our treasure" but when it comes to pleasing people in these forums, IMHO, you need to please the people using the cart, not the people who bailed.

Believe me, I am holding back, if I had my way, the entire forum would be private and exclusive to monstersmile.gif merchants, including this thread. Don't you think your competitors have access to these forums? Don't you have access to theirs? It should be locked down, no public.
