Full Version: 2nd Site, Does It Require A Separate Merchant Account?
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > Merchant Accounts

We are in the process of deciding whether or not to go forward with a 2nd site to sell products from competitive manufacturers of our 1st site. It would still be wholly owned by our parent company same as our 1st site. My question is, do we need a separate merchant account for this site or can we process both web site with the same account?
Thanks in advance

Hi Steve,

You can use the same merchant account if you are selling the same product with the same name and funnels to the same shopping cart. If that isn't the way you are going to setup a second site and when a second merchant account is needed, we will give you a break in charges to make it very affordable. It's our goal to help you be successful anyway we can.

It may be possible to run both sites through the same merchant account although it is not generally recommended. By having two separate accounts, it will be easier to separate the sales from each website, which will allow you to better see where your sales are most productive.

By running two website through the same merchant account, you also leave yourself open to unwanted chargebacks from customers who may not recognize the business name when they receive their credit card statements.

However, all of this would be best determined by looking at the business as a whole and see what would be the best route for the merchant to take.

Hope this helps...
