Hi BCB,

In terms of the bar turning green in IE, I think you have to set the settings in IE to enable that, or this is something that Microsoft is releasing in the future after EV certs have been released for a while in a new version of IE 7.x.

I would checkout MS help pages to look into this.

What I think we figured out is the bar turning green is only in Vista on IE 7, so that just sucks. Pretty much so far I don't see a reason to upgrade.

Plus I still don't get why it's 128 when the email that NS sent out plus the sales calls all hyped up "256-bit data encryption, the highest level available". We already had the NS 128 SSL on the site, so I'm not even sure what we upgraded for?

BCB
I just found out monstersmile.gif can't do 256, something I find awesome cause this is an NS seal (funny yet sad cause the sales at NS told us it would and I didn't check it out with monstersmile.gif first).

Anyway I found this:

QUOTE
When running on the Microsoft Windows Vista™ platform, Internet Explorer® 7 (IE 7) automatically updates its store of EV Roots. Unfortunately, this is not the case when IE 7 is running on Windows® XP. To address this, Network Solutions developed its EV Root Updater Code to automatically update your visitors' Web browsers to support your EV SSL Certificate. The EV Root Updater Code is a simple script that you can embed into the secure pages of your Web site. The EV Root Updater Code will transparently update the EV Roots stored in your visitors' IE 7 browsers on Windows® XP so their address bars will display as green for your Web site address.

So does this mean we need to add code to our site for the bar to actually turn green?

Hi BCB,

We fully allow 256 bit SSLs for your products so I am not sure who you spoke to but I would recommend speaking to our support department then NetworkSolutions Hosting or SSL support team. In terms of the code you are speaking of, if it is javascript, simply place the code in your top of page html and it should work fine then.

If you have any questions please feel free to call us in support or shoot me an email.

Joe
PS. If you purchased and EV cert it is 256bit encryption, that is part of the standard that must be met for EV certs.

Ok I sent you a PM about it.

Also, how do I get the code to put on the page. I didn't see it on the NS site. Unless they are talking about the code for the Javapop up (like its with that) we already have. In that case it doesn't do anything. My guess is this is differnt code.

I was able to get the bar to turn green for us on XP. We cleared the certs in IE and now the bar is green, it could have either have been us or something monstersmile.gif did. Now we just need to get it to work on firefox (I don't think the bar turns green on this one anyway), Macs and figure out this whole 256 bit deal.

I think we are going to wait until Firefox and Mac Browsers adopt it, my guess would be when Leopard is released.
