Full Version: Variant Group Editor
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?

OK. Last question, I promise. (Well, maybe another one tomorrow). wink.gif

The variant editor is driving me crazy. wacko.gif I am entering 17 colors in a Color Group. But, no matter in what order I enter them, the 5th color and above are landing above the first four colors even though they have a higher sort number and are alphabetically higher. So, when I look at the list, it's all out of order.

It looks just fine on the product page. But, I would like to see them displayed like that in the editor. OK. If that can't be done, I'd sure like to see them in (1) the order I enter them (2) arranged by the sort number or (3) arranged alphabetically. Any of them is preferable. I don't know why items 5-10 are showing up before 1-4. I think I'm going crazy.

Hi,

You say it is displaying correctly in the Product page but not in the product editor correct?
kay
Yes, that's correct.
krazykickz
Yes,

That is because it does not sort in the product editor view by the sort order number, in which I fell sorry for those who have a long list of variants.

Ah. That's a shame. Naturally, I have a lot of them. I'll build a template and that'll help.

What is the order based on?

I think the order is based on how you add them. However, some of mine jump to the top like they are alphabetical.

hmm.. im checking now.
krazykickz
Well I tested it and added some product variants in, and I think the order is on how you enter them, but you said yours were jumping up right?

*** Mine do not file alphabetically either. They just fall right in at the bottom when I add a new one****
Trooper
Mine did the same thing and it drove me crazy, because you have to go out and look at the product to see what order there in. It gets worse when you have many advanced variants like me. This was a problem before with the variant not sorting in the product page but they seem to have fixed it.

Although, I make sure to enter my sort number in my variant even though my templates are sorted.
krazykickz
Trooper you are saying it is sorting for you now in the product view? That would not be a bad idea for it to do that, wonder why it doesnt. I ask because mine does not sort in the product editor view. dry.gif
Trooper
KrazyKickz it is still not doing it in the product editor but when I go out and look at it on the site it does, like Kay's. But as you stated it all depends on your entering in the template and variant sections, because like me I didn't pay that much attention to it until they were not sorting in either the editor or product views. It seemed to take my templates and only use that order, which I didn't enter in any particular order.

I was having trouble with the hide button before too, when checked it still wouldn't hide a variant. The sorting is working for the variant groups in the editor for me.

This is sort of off the topic, but I can't re-check the variants. My website has been down for about 45 minutes. Tech Support says they are installing patches. I forgot to ask them how long they expected it to take. You guys must be on a different server. Do MC patch installs take a couple of hours or longer on average?
krazykickz
Hey Kay,

It should not take this long.. it should take 4-8 minutes at the most I have experienced, most of the time never.

kay - Your site is up smile.gif Patches usually take less than 1-4 minutes to update your store (depending on whether or not there is a database and MCOM modification). Please PM me with any questions. Thank you!

Thank you! I hope you understand that I'm not complaining about MC. Sometimes, I just need to grasp what's normal and what's not (other than myself).

I think I'm really going to love it here. It's simply a learning curve. MC has great tech support and great documentation! As shown by your and Ryan's responses. smile.gif

And they are normally run in the middle of the night. Jen, why was this one run this morning?
krazykickz
uh oh...Jen you are in trouble..lol..j/k

This patch was run in the morning because it contained numerous 3.x vs 4.0 fixes beneficial to many of our newly migrated customers. It had to be delayed since Tuesday ( crying.gif ) in order to wait for migrations to finish their cycle (can't run an MCOM update and migrations at the same time).

So, I weighed the risks/rewards and opted to push it earlier than later...I am not making light of this situation at all, but, of all the patches we've run in which we have never experienced any timeframe problems, of course this one had to be the first. blushing.gif

I apologize for the delay...it will not happen again.

Hey, no problem from my end. I'd rather have the patches. If you could put a note on the tech page that we'd be out of commission for a specified amount of time, that would help a lot. I was just clueless as to how long it would take. (Could always shop online for Christmas whilst it's installing.) smile.gif
